Human Rights Day of Action 2017
On Sunday, December 10, International Human Rights Day, we gather to demonstrate our commitment to fighting for the ideals that those before us inspired: fairness, equity, dignity, humanity, and welcome for all. Organization sign-on: https://goo.gl/forms/vyr5AVwZQ3ykgdvl1 How you can help: 1. RSVP and invite friends (how to): https://www.facebook.com/events/325766677893890/permalink/364235244047033/ 2. Join the Thunderclap: Help us reach 500 names to mass-share this event! Sign on now >> http://panasd.org/sign-on 3. Share the event using the #ShowUp4Refugees hashtag, host a sign-making or phone-calling party with friends. Let's turn out San Diego! San Diego County is a multi-national, multicultural region with vibrant immigrant and refugee communities. With the erosion of public trust in government and increasingly uncivil public discourse, we call on local lawmakers to stand up for all San Diegans and to ensure the region's newcomer, immigrant, and Muslim families are safe, valued and included members of our shared community. So that every San Diegan may feel safe, valued and included, our region must address the key sustainability issues of access to housing, transparent democracy, and constitutional rights to privacy and free practice of religion. On December 10th, as we observe International Human Rights Day of Action, we will gather as a chorus of voices standing up against hateful rhetoric and discriminatory legislation. We call on our public elected representatives—and on each other—to take responsible action to welcome and protect the rights of our newcomer and immigrant families. Read the sign-on statement, add your organization: https://www.panasd.org/blog/2017/12/4/sign-on-human-rights-day-of-action-2017 We encourage you all to attend! It's easy for children to express their feelings by drawing a picture as opposed to answering questions directly. Children may be reluctant or even hostile about discussing certain topics. Creating artwork is a safe venue that allows kids to tackle tough issues in a creative way. Talking to the children about their drawings or paintings and helping them interpret the art can provide adults with the opening they need to get at the heart of the problems affecting our children and help the children release their negative emotions.
