MakeSpace and the George Washington University MSA invites you to a mesmerizing evening of love, enlightenment and transformation, as the esteemed Writer, Director and Actor Hassan El Jaï of Morocco performs his dramatic adaptation of “The 40 Rules of Love: A Novel of Rumi” a bestselling novel by the Turkish writer Elif Shafak. Hassan takes us on a journey to the sacred city of Konya during the 13th century through the eyes of Shams of Tabriz, the spiritual mentor of Jalaluddin Rumi. The journey is an expression of how Shams encounters and manifests Divine love through unexpected ways. Hassan transformed the tale into a mystical journey and an artistic experience, anchored by personal revelations.

Hassan has performed in numerous venues throughout Morocco, Europe and the United States. Passionate about theatre since childhood and a connoisseur of Molière and Shakespeare, Hassan trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and received a professional actors degree from the Cours Florent with highest honors. Hassan now writes, adapts and directs scripts into three languages, for theatre and short films in Morocco. He also teaches drama, and performs in live theatre and televised shows.
