The Institute was established in 1996 to strengthen access to Islamic education, promote scholarly research, facilitate community outreach and interaction with other religious organizations and community groups, consolidate the social fabric of the community, and sustain Islamic work by encouraging and building endowments. IIT's mission is to nurture and establish Islam as a living reality in the lives of Muslims and to enhance the Islamic identity in the society at large. IIT's mission calls for a commitment based on a sincere desire to see positive change in the world around us. The IIT will work with various organizations and groups, Muslim or not to promote tolerance, mutual understanding, social justice, civic responsibility and god-consciousness through the platform of education. IIT's curriculum includes Islamic faith and jurisprudence, fiqh, Qur'anic studies, Islamic history, and Arabic language.

Councillor Neethan Shan's Reception for Islamic Heritage Month

To kick off Islamic Heritage Month festivities, please join Councillor Neethan Shan in Ward 42 for our opening reception on October 5th, from 6:30 pm-8:00 pm at the Malvern Community Recreation Centre! Councillor Shan has partnered with Muslim organizations in the community, who will be hosting events throughout October in the Ward to celebrate and reflect on our shared Islamic heritage as well as the role that Islam plays in shaping the contributions of Toronto's Muslims. The Islamic Heritage Month Act, 2016 was introduced as 'Bill 23' in the Ontario Legislature to celebrate the vital contributions that Muslims have made in Ontario as part of the vibrant social, economic, political and cultural fabric of the province. We have a fantastic lineup planned for the night, with representatives from the following partner organizations amongst others; introducing the diverse roster of activities slated to be held as part of Councillor Shan's Islamic Heritage Month initiative: 1. The Islamic Institute of Toronto (IIT) 2. The Islamic Foundation of Toronto (IFT) 3. The Muslim Welfare Centre (MWC) 4. Islamic Soccer League (ISL) 5. Qari Imran Khan is a motivational speaker and International reciter of the Glorious Qur'an who has Ijaza from various Qurra and Shuyookh around the world. Along with his personal study, he had the opportunity to study Islam in-depth with Dr. Jamal Badawi that made him into a seasoned speaker for the youth and the community. He has been conducting his Tajweed and Qira'ah workshops for more than 20 years and has completed more than 100 workshops Worldwide . He also conducts interactive community lectures on Islam and Qur'anic Arabic which have been delivered around the world. Currently, Qari Imran is based in Jeddah, KSA and works as an Education Consultant and counselor.

In 2002 Sheikh Musleh was accepted at the Islamic University of Madinah where he completed a diploma in Arabic followed by a BA in Islamic Law from the faculty of Da'wah and Usool al-deen. He has been very active in the Toronto vicinity for more than 10 years, having conducted khutbahs, classes, lectures and conferences, as well as various Islamic Intensive programs in the United States. Family Day with New Syrian-Canadians

Join us on Monday, February 15 with some of our new families at IIT! IIT will be hosting a number of Syrian families from Salaatul Dhuhr to Salaatul Maghrib. We are inviting families to join us. This is a social event - activities for younger children, including games. New Syrian Canadians will receive info on the nuances of living and working in Canada and other support services. While no tickets will be sold, we are asking for donations to offset the cost of the event. Refreshments and food will be served throughout the day. Interested in helping?
