The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or is oppressed". A man inquired: "O Messenger of Allah! I [understand why I would] help him when he is oppressed, but how can I help him when he is an oppressor?" He (ﷺ) said, "You can keep him from committing oppression. That will be your way of helping him."

For too long, when faced with cases of abuse and mistreatment, many in our community often chose to look the other way, to brush such issues under the rug and pretend that no problem exists. Instead of gaining the support they so desperately need, victims are forced to lead a life of silence and isolation out of fear of being shunned, ignored, or ostracized. Fear. Silence. Guilt. Shame. This cannot go on any longer. These emotions must be replaced by comfort, sympathy, empathy, and support. The shackles of silence must give way to empowerment and a voice.

Please join us at Masjid DarusSalam for our monthly seminar this coming Friday addressing the role of the Muslim community in curbing the crisis of abuse.
