The Masjid DarusSalam and Academy project aspires to continue the legacy of providing a sanctuary for connecting with Allah (SWT) as well as a fountainhead where the seekers of traditional knowledge may quench their thirst in the company of scholars. We hope to make this institution the beating heart of the thriving community that surrounds it.

Scholars of the Subcontinent: Spiritual Empire Built on the Ruin

As-Salamu 'Alaykum! InshaAllah DarusSalam will be hosting Shaykh Hamzah Wald Maqbul for our monthly seminar on Friday, March 9 after Isha (7:30PM). Many people see the hundreds of Huffaz of the Qur'an, Imams, Muftis and Scholars who have graduated from the scholarly institutions of the Indian Subcontinent. However, the generality of the Muslims in this land, and often those scholars themselves, don't know what their spiritual lineage is, or how and why the institutions and individuals who made the preservation of Islam were able to do so, or who they were and what epic struggles they had to go through in order to arrive at the success they did. Come listen to their story and link yourself to the unbroken chain which ties us all to Allah and His Messenger (S).

Silence No More: Hearing The Voices Of The Opressed

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or is oppressed". A man inquired: "O Messenger of Allah! I [understand why I would] help him when he is oppressed, but how can I help him when he is an oppressor?" He (ﷺ) said, "You can keep him from committing oppression. That will be your way of helping him." For too long, when faced with cases of abuse and mistreatment, many in our community often chose to look the other way, to brush such issues under the rug and pretend that no problem exists. Instead of gaining the support they so desperately need, victims are forced to lead a life of silence and isolation out of fear of being shunned, ignored, or ostracized. Fear. Silence. Guilt. Shame. This cannot go on any longer. These emotions must be replaced by comfort, sympathy, empathy, and support. The shackles of silence must give way to empowerment and a voice. Please join us at Masjid DarusSalam for our monthly seminar this coming Friday addressing the role of the Muslim community in curbing the crisis of abuse. Speaker: Shaykh Sa'ad Quadri

DarusSalam Seminary Campus Benefit Dinner - Preserving our Faith

As-Salamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh! When the DarusSalam project in its current form was originally envisioned, some may have viewed it as overly ambitious or even unachievable. Yet with the tawfīq of Allāh, the hard work of our staff and volunteers, and the generous support of our community, we were blessed with a vibrant center of Islāmic learning. Now the time has come to take our vision to the next level. We are turning to you for your support. On a daily basis, DarusSalam Academy holds 98 instructional periods for over 22 classes. Currently, our campus has only 4 dedicated classrooms. If you visit DarusSalam during school hours, you will be unable to find a space of our facility that is not being used as a makeshift classroom; musallahs, lobbies, hallways, and even the funeral preparation room are currently being used as classrooms for our students. As multiple classes are added with each year, our need for expansion is dire. ***DarusSalam Seminary Campus*** Alhamdulillah, plans are well under way for Phase Two of DarusSalam: The Seminary Campus. Featuring dedicated school buildings, a gymnasium, research library and more, this facility will become home to our growing student body for decades to come, inshaAllah. This is an amazing opportunity to invest. An investment into a project of this nature will produce perpetual returns. It is a ṣadaqah jāriyah, a charitable donation that will benefit one in both this world and the next. Let us come together. Brothers and sisters, we cannot afford to lose out on this opportunity. ***Benefit Dinner with Shaykh Omar Suleiman*** Saturday, January 27, 2018, we will be holding the first Benefit Dinner for this project. We cordially invite you to join us and to be a part of DarusSalam's vision of developing spiritual and intellectual leaders who will become the torch-bearers of our deen in America, inshaAllah. Speakers Include: - Shaykh Omar Suleiman (Keynote) - Mufti Abdullah Waheed - Mufti Minhajuddin Ahmed - Mufti Azeemuddin Ahmed ***Seminary Campus Benefit Dinner*** Venue: Shalimar Banquets (280 E North Ave, Addison, IL 60101) Time: Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 5pm Individual Ticket: $100 Family Ticket: $200 Table of 10: $1,000 -------- We hope to see all of you there inshaAllah. DS Sirah Conference 2017: Paragon of Perfection

A common complaint that is heard when addressing the sirah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ is that most literature, lectures, and conferences dedicated to the topic focus primarily on events rather than personality. While it is undoubtedly important to acquaint ourselves with the timeline of dates, incidents, migrations, and battles that took place during the life of the Messenger ﷺ, it is equally necessary if not more so to become familiar with his impeccable character and sublime conduct. This aspect has traditionally been addressed in the shama’il genre. Drawing inspiration from erudite scholars like Imam al-Tirmidhi, the aim of DarusSalam Foundation’s second annual Sirah Conference, titled Paragon of Perfection, is to reflect on the various roles of Rasulullah ﷺ, drawing lessons that can be applicable in our modern context. We will examine the Prophet ﷺ in his capacity as: - A teacher - A husband and father - An activist - A leader - A counselor - A businessman - Most importantly, a slave and worshipper of Allah “Indeed, within the Prophet ﷺ lies for you an excellent example” (Ahzab 21). Please join us to learn the example of our Beloved ﷺ and how it can serve as a guiding light for all aspects of our own lives. Please share this event with friends & family. The Power of Ambition: Achieving Success Through High Aspiration

The desire to succeed is one that is present in every individual, irrespective of the particular goals each individual has. If you were to ask a group of successful individuals how is it that they achieved their success, each one would have a different reply. What they all have in common, however, is this; they all had lofty aspirations. As Muslims, we are taught by Rasulullah ﷺ to strive for ihsan (excellence) in all our endeavors, be they worldly or deeni. It is not sufficient to settle for mediocrity. Rasulullah ﷺ said "When you ask Allah [for paradise], ask Him for Firdaws". This ambition is the driving force that allows us to reach our goals. Without it, success becomes impossible. Please join us this Friday, October 20 after 'Isha (7:45pm) for our monthly seminar "The Power of Ambition: Achieving Success Through High Aspirations" with Shaykh Akef Habbal. ----------- About Shaykh Akef - Shaykh Akef Habbal was born in Montreal, Canada. He graduated from a six-year program at Madrasah Khusrufiyyah in Aleppo, Syria. Thereafter he earned his bachelor's degree in Islamic Studies from the University of Damascus, where he then continued to study master's level courses in theological and religious studies. Shaykh Akef then went on to study various subjects including tafsir, fiqh, nahw, and usool under various scholars in Aleppo. Upon returning to North America, Shaykh Akef began teaching Arabic and Islamic studies at various institutions. He currently serves as an Arabic instructor at DarusSalam Academy. ---------- We humbly request all to invite their friends and family to this month's Monthly Seminar. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم warned his followers that the Hour is near, and he foretold of certain signs that would serve as precursors to its emergence. What does it mean for the Day of Judgment to be drawing near? Why do scholars continue to warn the community generation after generation that it is approaching? Which of its signs have been witnessed already? How do current events play in Allah's plan? Please join us this Friday, September 29 for a captivating lecture on this important topic. ---- About The Speaker: Mohammed Ifdhal Khan was born in 1991 in Bangladesh and came to the United States when he was two years old. He and his family resided in Detroit where he attended public school. At the age of 12 he returned to his home country, Bangladesh, to memorize the Quran which he completed by the age of 14. Masjid DarusSalam Qur'an Khatam & Expansion Fundraiser 2017

As-Salamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. We thank Allah SWT for allowing us to witness this blessed month once again and pray that He allows us to take full advantage and derive immense benefit from it. In these last few and most blessed days, we invite you to join us for khatam of Qur’an on Friday, July 23, 2017. If you are unable to attend in person, we encourage you to listen live on YouTube. Please encourage for family and friends to be a part of this gathering. ------ We will also be holding our annual Khatam fundraiser on Friday, June 23 during Tarawih. Alhamdulillah, after launching the Takmil seminary program and the Tanwir immersion program, our classrooms filled with eager students. Many of them have completely dedicated themselves to Islamic Studies intending to serve the community in various capcaities. Along with the full-time programs, there is significant interest in our weekly classes. In fact, for the women's weekly tafsir program, up to 150 sisters come to attend and the space for them is insufficent. We value women's education, and desire to provide them with a facility in which they can learn. In brief, our current buidling is not adequate. We require an expansion. We are turning to the community to support this project. Your generous donations are very much appreciated and this is an amazing opportunity to invest. An investment into a project of this nature will produce perpetual returns. It is a sadaqah jariyah; a charitable donation that will benefit one in both this world and the next. Along with providing a mosque facility that serves the many needs of our thriving community, we are producing a generation of scholars who will, inshAllah, lead our community into the future and become beacons of guidance for year to come. DarusSalam is a place where all Muslims can quench their thirst of knowledge and benefit from the various programs and classes offered. The Angels Await

Ramadan Workshop: Virtues, Practical Tips, and Fiqh of Fasting!

Alhamdulillah, the blessed month of Ramadan is quickly approaching. It is the month regarding which the Prophet (S) said "...the gates of Heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." It is the month which serves as a spiritual rejuvenation for the entire year. To take advantage of these tremendous benefits, we must be adequately prepared. What are the virtues of this month? How did our pious predecessors spend their Ramadan? What are the fiqhi rulings pertaining to fasting and worship? With only 30 days in this blessed month, it is important that we do not enter it blindly, but with the answers to these questions. For this reason, DarusSalam will be holding a one-day Ramadan Workshop this Saturday, May 20, inshaAllah. From Maghrib (8:13pm) til 'Isha (10:00pm), Mufti Abdul Mannan Nizami and Mawlana Jamal Khalid will discuss these important topics pertaining to Ramadan. DS Retreat 2017: Ambassadors of Faith: Exemplifying Excellence

Mark your calendars! Our third annual 3-Day Retreat is almost here! You won't want to miss a second of this program Good and evil cannot be equal. Repel evil with what is better and your enemy will become as close as an old and valued friend (Fussilat 34). As Muslims, we have a duty to make the world around us a better place. Our religion teaches us to become proactively involved in our society, to honor our neighbors, to protect our environment, to uphold justice, and to enact positive change. If we choose to remain insular and our concern does not extend beyond the aspirations and ambitions of our immediate family, consuming and not contributing, then we have none to blame but ourselves should others view us with suspicion or negativity. Please join DarusSalam Foundation for this year’s annual retreat, entitled Ambassadors of Faith: Exemplifying Excellence in Conduct, where we will explore the pristine teachings of our religion regarding the role of a Muslim in his capacity as a family member, a friend, a colleague, a community member, and a citizen, someone who not only represents his faith through his words but through his deeds and his character. This years retreat will include: ► Lectures for Brothers & Sisters ► Q&A ► Praises of the Prophet (SAW) ► Book Sales ► I'tikaf for Brothers 18+ ► Complimentary Meals ► Babysitting ► Midnight Basketball Tournament (TBA) ► Tanwir Intensive Open House & Graduation Ceremony ► & More! The Star-Spangled Believer: American Patriotism And Islam

- Can a Muslim simultaneously be devoutly religious and nationalistic? - Do these two identities clash with one another? In the current socio-political landscape, the question is often asked whether a faithful Muslim can be a true American living in a diverse milieu alongside people of other faiths and values. The reality is that the holistic and dynamic nature of the Sunnah (Prophetic practice) not only allows for that but its values mandate such. Our experience is not the first Muslim encounter with a pluralistic society. Rather, saintly luminaries and intellectuals have penned and exemplified values of nationalism and duty to one's nation. Join us Friday, April 14 after Maghrib (7:35pm) as Mawlana Dr. Mateen Khan explores this pertinent topic.

Masjid DarusSalam Community Open House!

"Whoever believes in God and the Last Day, then let him honor his neighbor." - The Prophet Muhammad. The principle of loving and honoring one's neighbors is one that is shared by all faiths. In an increasingly divisive, partisan atmosphere, there is no ideal more important than this to unite our fractured nation. We need to build bridges between our communities, not walls. We need to extend the hand of goodwill and friendship, not harbor animosity and rancor toward those of our fellow citizens who may not look like us or share our faith. In this light, Masjid DarusSalam humbly invites our respected friends, neighbors, and community members to attend our Open House. Those attending will have the opportunity to learn more about the Islamic faith from the perspective of mainstream, practicing Muslims as well getting acquainted with the services and activities provided by our mosque. RSVP at http://www.DSFND.org/OpenHouse Please share with your friends, colleagues, & families.

Reconnecting With Our History: Inspiration Without Complacency

Every great society shares an appreciation for the history of its people. Through becoming conversant with our history, we not only gain inspiration from the achievements and successes of those who came before us but learn from their adversities and failures. As Churchill once said, those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. We live in an era which, without exaggeration, could be described as one of the dark ages of our umma. However, there was once a time in which Muslims were not only connected with their religion but led the civilized world in various disciplines, both spiritual and mundane. Men like Ibn Rushd, Ibn Khaldun, and Al-Biruni were the leading thinkers, philosophers, and scientists of their age, and people would travel to centers of learning in Andalus and Baghdad for education. Please join us for our monthly seminar in which we will explore some of the achievements of these great men, not to revel in the glory of the past at the expense of improving our present condition, but rather to use them as a catalyst to, by the help of Allah, shape our future for the better. This program will take place next Friday, March 10 after 'Isha (7:45pm). We humbly request all to invite their family & friends to this event, The Angels Await, Asalamualaikum

Code of Courtship - Love, Marriage, & Relationships

Against All Odds: The Incredible Life Of Yusuf (AS)

A young boy, alone in the dark depths of a well. A young man, wrongfully imprisoned; his reputation besmirched. A father bereaved of his beloved son, patiently hoping for his return for many years, only to have another taken away from him. These are situations which would lead any normal person to lose hope. To give up. To despair. Yet Sayidduna Yusuf and Sayyiduna Ya`qub never lost faith. They never stopped trusting in Allah's promise. Their story is one of perseverance and yaqin in the face of immense tribulation and against all odds, and has and will remain to be a source of inspiration for posterity. Please join us in DarusSalam's Monthly Seminar, in which we will be examining this incredible story and the lessons we can derive from it. Into The Realm of the Unseen - The World Of Jinn (Part 1)

Throughout history man has always had a deep attraction for the supernatural and the unseen. The idea of a world parallel to our own has been an object of fascination, with each culture preserving its own tales and accounts of paranormal occurrences. As time passed on, many of these accounts were chalked up as fantasy, dismissing the idea of the unseen. As Muslims, we know that there does indeed exist a world of the unseen, and that belonging to this world are the jinn, beings created from fire that reside in this world alongside mankind. Join us Wednesday, January 4 as we explore this realm with Shaykh Hasan Ali. Shaykh Hasan Ali is widely known across the North London where he carries out a lot of voluntary work within the local community, such as local mosques and community centers, secondary schools, interfaith programs and various community events. His powerful lectures are viewed on YouTube by tens of thousands. Shaykh Hasan is visiting the US for the first time and we are honored to host him as he speaks on this unique topic. Inshallah, part 2 of this program will be on Friday Jan. 13th with Mufti Azeemuddin for the Monthly Seminar. He will be addressing Nazr, The Evil Eye, & Black Magic! Mark your calendars inshallah! Livestreaming will be at MasjidDS.org

DS Sirah Conference 2016: In The Footsteps Of The Beloved

“Indeed, there is an excellent example for you in the Messenger of Allah” (Ahzab). For those among you who have struggled with the following: - The loss of a loved one. - Dealing with spouses, children, parents, and neighbors. - Conducting yourself in the workplace, business, and the marketplace. - Holding on to your values and principles in an unwelcoming environment. - Trying to achieve a goal against all odds. There are answers for you in the illustrious life of our Prophet ﷺ. Just as our Creator sent us guidance in the form of Scripture, he sent us a practical example of this guidance manifested in a human being: Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ. Due to this reason, as Imam Zayn al-`Abidin mentioned, our pious predecessors would learn the biography of the Messenger ﷺ just as they would learn surahs of the Qur’an. Please join us at Masjid DarusSalam as we journey through the various stages of the Sirah of our beloved role model ﷺ, from his birth until his parting advice to his community. Speakers ► Mufti Minhajuddin, Mufti Azeemuddin, Mufti Ehzaz Ajmeri, Mawlana Ahteramul Haque, Mawlana Sohail Bengali, Mawlana Sa'ad Quadri Join us for this FREE conference and spread the word! Unbreakable Faith: Maintaining Hope In The Face Of Islamaphobia

- How do we practice and stay firm on our faith as a minority group? - How do we integrate in this society without completely assimilating and losing our identity? - How do we deal with Islamophobia and increasing hostility? - How do we raise proud Muslim children when our values and faith are viewed with suspicion? - How do we build bridges with our non-Muslim friends, colleagues, and neighbors? As anti-Islamic rhetoric grows, we see the reality of our Prophet's (S) words when he said that holding onto iman will be like holding onto burning coal. It is during these trying times that we must remain steadfast and unwavering in our faith, resisting the urge to fade into the background in hopes of going unrecognized. DS RETREAT 2016: Faith Amidst Turbulence: Calibrating Our Compass in Contemporary Times

Mark your calendars! Our second annual 3-Day Retreat is almost here! You won't want to miss a second of this program, where we will explore the many topics discussed in Surah Al-Kahf “There shall come a time in which the person who remains steadfast upon his faith will be like the one holding on to a burning ember” (Tirmidhi). Since the advent of modernity, the ummah has been in a state of collective and perpetual disarray: politically, socially, economically, and most crucially, religiously. Maps have been redrawn, and long standing institutions and traditions of our community have been excised and replaced, opening the way for ideologies and worldviews alien to those our faith upholds. Moreover, for the first time in our history, Muslims are immigrating in massive numbers and living as minorities among non-Muslim majorities. How do we explain the social and political upheaval in the Islamic World? How do we hold on to our traditions in a time when we are witnessing a radical global shift in ethics and values? How do we practice our faith in a secular environment where religiosity in general is viewed as a vestige of more primitive times and our faith in particular is viewed with contempt? These critical issues will be addressed in this year’s DarusSalam 3-Day Retreat, entitled Faith Amidst Turbulence: Calibrating Our Compass in Contemporary Times. Join us for this FREE retreat and spread the word! More info and registration @ www.DSFnd.org/Retreat2016

Youth Qiyam: What's Love Got To Do With It? Love, Relationships, and Gender Issues

Assalamu'alaykum! We're very excited to announce our second youth qiyam program on February 12th. Alhamdulillah, there was an amazing turnout at our previous qiyam and we want this one to be even better, inshaAllah! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, the topic of the night will, of course, be about love. Everybody loves to love, but oftentimes our perception of true love and what it means becomes misconstrued. Whether we're in high school or college, we are constantly bombarded with the pressures of romance and temptations of the opposite gender, be it through movies, TV, music, or friends and peers. Allah SWT created us with natural inclination towards eachother, but how do we deal with it properly? How is love defined in Islam? What are our limits when dealing with the opposite gender? How do we control our emotions? Join us Friday, February 12th at 7:30pm as Mawlana Tameem Ahmadi of California answers these questions and more! There will be food, games, and Q&A! Sisters will also get to spend time with a female scholar Brothers: 7:30pm - 1:30am Sisters: 7:30pm - 12:00am Open to all youth ages 16-25 This will immediately follow our monthly seminar: "What is Love? Reviving Our Love for Allah" at 7:30pm. See you there and spread the word!!
