Many people see the hundreds of Huffaz of the Qur'an, Imams, Muftis and Scholars who have graduated from the scholarly institutions of the Indian Subcontinent. However, the generality of the Muslims in this land, and often those scholars themselves, don't know what their spiritual lineage is, or how and why the institutions and individuals who made the preservation of Islam were able to do so, or who they were and what epic struggles they had to go through in order to arrive at the success they did. Silence No More: Hearing The Voices Of The Opressed
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or is oppressed". A man inquired: "O Messenger of Allah! I [understand why I would] help him when he is oppressed, but how can I help him when he is an oppressor?" He (ﷺ) said, "You can keep him from committing oppression. That will be your way of helping him." For too long, when faced with cases of abuse and mistreatment, many in our community often chose to look the other way, to brush such issues under the rug and pretend that no problem exists. Instead of gaining the support they so desperately need, victims are forced to lead a life of silence and isolation out of fear of being shunned, ignored, or ostracized. Fear. Silence. Guilt. Shame. This cannot go on any longer. These emotions must be replaced by comfort, sympathy, empathy, and support. The shackles of silence must give way to empowerment and a voice. As-Salamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh! When the DarusSalam project in its current form was originally envisioned, some may have viewed it as overly ambitious or even unachievable. Yet with the tawfīq of Allāh, the hard work of our staff and volunteers, and the generous support of our community, we were blessed with a vibrant center of Islāmic learning. Now the time has come to take our vision to the next level. We are turning to you for your support. On a daily basis, DarusSalam Academy holds 98 instructional periods for over 22 classes. Currently, our campus has only 4 dedicated classrooms. If you visit DarusSalam during school hours, you will be unable to find a space of our facility that is not being used as a makeshift classroom; musallahs, lobbies, hallways, and even the funeral preparation room are currently being used as classrooms for our students. DS Sirah Conference 2017: Paragon of Perfection
A common complaint that is heard when addressing the sirah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ is that most literature, lectures, and conferences dedicated to the topic focus primarily on events rather than personality. While it is undoubtedly important to acquaint ourselves with the timeline of dates, incidents, migrations, and battles that took place during the life of the Messenger ﷺ, it is equally necessary if not more so to become familiar with his impeccable character and sublime conduct. This aspect has traditionally been addressed in the shama’il genre. Drawing inspiration from erudite scholars like Imam al-Tirmidhi, the aim of DarusSalam Foundation’s second annual Sirah Conference, titled Paragon of Perfection, is to reflect on the various roles of Rasulullah ﷺ, drawing lessons that can be applicable in our modern context. As-Salamu 'Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. We thank Allah SWT for allowing us to witness this blessed month once again and pray that He allows us to take full advantage and derive immense benefit from it. In these last few and most blessed days, we invite you to join us for khatam of Qur’an on Friday, July 23, 2017. If you are unable to attend in person, we encourage you to listen live on YouTube. Please encourage for family and friends to be a part of this gathering. ------ We will also be holding our annual Khatam fundraiser on Friday, June 23 during Tarawih. Alhamdulillah, after launching the Takmil seminary program and the Tanwir immersion program, our classrooms filled with eager students. Many of them have completely dedicated themselves to Islamic Studies intending to serve the community in various capcaities. Along with the full-time programs, there is significant interest in our weekly classes. In fact, for the women's weekly tafsir program, up to 150 sisters come to attend and the space for them is insufficent. We value women's education, and desire to provide them with a facility in which they can learn. In brief, our current buidling is not adequate. We require an expansion. We are turning to the community to support this project. Your generous donations are very much appreciated and this is an amazing opportunity to invest. Ramadan Workshop: Virtues, Practical Tips, and Fiqh of Fasting!
Alhamdulillah, the blessed month of Ramadan is quickly approaching. It is the month regarding which the Prophet (S) said "...the gates of Heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." Assalamu'alaykum! DarusSalam is pleased to announce our very first Youth Qiyam program. Take a break from the stresses of finals week as we spend the night in the company of our scholars and friends. In addition to our regular instructors, we are honored to host Mufti Abdur Rahman Waheed of Michigan, as well as Maulana Sa'ad Quadri and Alimah Sana Mohiuddin of Milwaukee.
