An 8-week mindfulness course, this program will offer simple techniques using the breath and the body to anchor the practitioner in the present moment. Benefits of mindfulness practice include stress reduction, heightened emotional awareness and understanding, as well as an increased acceptance and compassion towards the self and others. We’ll offer guided meditations, teachings, and plenty of room for open questions and sharing. Attendees must commit to the entire 8-weeks. All are welcome, no previous meditation experience necessary.

Instructor Bio:

Born in Connecticut, Micah Anderson spent several of his teen years in and out of placements after struggles with crime, anger, and isolation. After years involved in 12-step fellowship, followed by extensive travel overseas searching for a spiritual path, he embraced Islam in the mid-90s. Since then, Micah has taught retreats and led trainings on mindfulness, mental wellness, and emotional literacy in five countries. He has had a personal meditation practice for over two decades.

Micah is currently the Wellness Director at Ta’leef Collective, and has been working for Ta’leef for the last five years in a variety of capacities, including convert care coordinator, meditation instructor, and clinician. He is also the Program Director at the Mind Body Awareness Project (MBA), an Oakland, CA. based non-profit that designs, delivers and researches mindfulness and emotional literacy programs for at-risk and incarcerated youth.

He is currently a MFT intern collecting BBS hours at both Ta’leef and MBA, running groups as well as providing psychotherapy for both individuals and couples. Micah lives in Oakland, CA. with his wife and two children, and has a M.A. in psychology/counseling from Sofia University (formally the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology). He loves to spend time with his family, burn aloeswood, and catch up on his collection of records and books. Micah can be reached at: wellness@taleefcollective.org External Event Url
