As part of BU's Gender Advocacy and Progress Week, ISBU will be holding a discussion with the CEO and founder of The Tempest, Laila Alawa. Laila will be talking about her story, what inspired her, and the barriers she faced as a Muslim women in the corporate world. She will also be talking about female empowerment in Islam.

The event will be held in CAS 522 and will be running from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. Bring all of your friends, family, and colleagues. We can't wait to see you all there.

Here is a short biography of Laila:

Laila Alawa started her career at the White House and Congress, and is the CEO and Founder of The Tempest, the leading tech and media company by diverse millennial women, for the world. In 2016, she was honored at the White House Summit on the United State of Women. Since founding The Tempest, Laila has been quoted in nationwide outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, and CNN Money as a disruptive force in media. Prior to founding The Tempest, Laila was a research specialist at Princeton University, studying socio-cognitive processing under the framework of community identity and belonging. External Event Url
