2016 marks ten years since Israel imposed a military blockade on Gaza, adding an urgency to generate greater awareness of realities on the ground and create political movement to end the blockade in the United States. In the shadow of the election of Donald Trump as US president, the likelihood of more such attacks has increased and the lessons from Gaza for resisting occupation, state terror, and state-supported racism are all the more urgent.

Mohammed Omer, 32, is among the younger generation of Palestinian writers who work to narrate their own reality, despite the isolation and global indifference to their lives under military occupation. Mohammed Omer began translating and writing at age 17 from Rafah (Gaza), and has since become an award-winning author and journalist covering life for Palestinians in Gaza for numerous publications including Al Jazeera, The Nation, Electronic Intifada, Middle East Eye, and numerous European news outlets. His latest book, Shell Shocked: On the Ground Under Israeli Assault will be available for sale during the event. External Event Url
