Geraldine Christiane Aubert and Dr. Stefan Masarovic.
Wednesday, 10 May 2017
From 12pm to 1pm
MIA Auditorium

As part of our public programme series for Imperial Threads: Motifs and Artisans from Turkey, Iran and India, join us for a special lecture about one of the objects on display. MIA Conservators, Geraldine Aubert and Dr. Stefan Masarovic have undertaken extensive conservation and research of the 18th century Safavid Arab Chest, including dismantling all metal elements from the wooden chest to reveal past decoration phases. This lecture will introduce the historical and geographical context, explaining the traditional manufacturing techniques and describing the main physical and chemical alterations of the materials composing the object that led to the final choice of conservation treatment.
