Help us wish our seniors farewell this Friday from 4:30 to 7:15 at the OUCRL Patio. There will be barbeque, games, and possibly The Best Potato Salad™. There will not be any (visible) crying, but tissues will be provided by the MSA just in case a few tears slip through. We'll end the night with Maghrib at the Annex. We'd love to have you join for a fun-filled afternoon and we look forward to seeing you all there!

Come join the Muslim Students Association and the Middle Eastern Students Association in welcoming Linda Sarsour to our campus! Sarsour is the co-organizor of the Women's March, a racial justice and civil rights activist, and the recipient of numerous awards. As a Palestinian-American Muslim, Sarsour is every bigot's worst nightmare. This lecture will be Thursday Feb. 1 in the Student Life Center @ 7pm. Student tickets are FREE and can be picked up at the sarratt box office. Community tickets are $5 and can be picked up at the Islamic Center of Nashville or reach out to the Muslim Students Association or the Middle Eastern Students Association.

Women of all faiths are welcome to experience wearing a hijab for a day! We will provide the scarves and help you wrap them Tuesday morning from 7:30AM to 10AM in these following locations: Sarratt Promenade Kissam Center lobby Commons Center lobby There will be a photo campaign at Sarratt Promenade between 11AM-1PM, so come show off your hijab! Everyone, even those who did not participate in the challenge, is invited to dinner and reflection 6:30PM at Wilson 112 that day. There will be a box at the dinner to return your scarves, as well. Join The Muslim Student Association as we fundraise for drought relief in Somalia this week(March 20-24). The UN reported that the current drought is affecting more than 6.2 million people, half the country's population. This is a humanitarian crisis and it’s our job as humans to come together to help. We'll be selling baked items at Rand (MThFri) and at Commons (Tues/Wed) from 11-1pm. You can pay with cash or venmo: rayanosman. All the proceeds will be going to SomaliFaces, an organization that has people on the ground providing aid and relief. SomaliFaces prides itself in transparency so they documents all their work allowing us to directly see how the funds raised will be used. The Muslim Students Association and the South Asian Cultural Exchange will be co-hosting this month's GBM! The theme of the discussion will be " A Case of Mistaken Identities: Generalized Islamophobia." We'll be sharing experiences and opinions about those who don't idenfity as Muslim, but are still typecasted as "potential terrorists." Individuals of South Asian descent in particular are some of the most common victims of this phenomenon. Wadjda is a 2012 Saudi Arabian–German film, written and directed by Haifaa al-Mansour. It was the first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia and the first feature-length film made by a female Saudi director and successfully earned a nomination for Best Foreign Film at the 2014 BAFTA Awards. Join Vanderbilt MSA along with the Wesley Fellowship as we commemorate the end of Islamic Awareness week with our cap off event! We will be hosting two renowned guest speakers, Dr. Todd Green and Dr. Jonathan Brown, who will address issues regarding the misconceptions about Islam. Namely, the focus of the event will be Islamophobia in the West. As always, we will be catering FREE delicious dinner and the event is open to all Vanderbilt students as well as members of the Nashville community! In the first portion Dr. Green, who is an Associate Professor of Religion at Luther College and Vanderbilt alum, will broadly cover the main causes and consequences of Islamophobia that have spanned Western history, and will also give attention to the unique factors that characterize the post-9/11 era. As we switch gears to the second portion after dinner, Dr. Brown, the Alwaleed bin Talal Chair of Islamic Civilization in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and Director of the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding, will cover the root of Islamophobia with regard to commonly misinterpreted verses of the Quran and life of the Prophet. This is sure to be a great scholastic event and a great opportunity to hear some of the most acclaimed speakers on the topic! This general body meeting will be co-hosted by the Muslim Students Association and the Malaysian Students Association at Vanderbilt. Guest speaker Hanif J. Williams will be joining us to give his talk titled "Limitless." Asad will give a short 20 minute talk about service (theme of the month!) and its importance within Islam. Afterwards, we will pray Asr jammah. After the halaqa, we encourage everyone to stay and help MSA and UMR create hygeine kits for Syrian Refugees in Nahsville! InshaAllah, this will be a wonderful experience that will allow us to gain insight and participate in service! Please bring hangers, deodorant, and blankets!

Come join the Muslim Students Association for a night of ice skating at Centennial Sportsplex! We'll be meeting at the Barnes and Noble on West End at 7:15 PM this Friday and walking there together (but if you can't make it, you're welcome to meet us at the sportsplex at 7:30). Whether you're just learning or can skate like a pro, we'd love to have you there! The price for entry is $7 and skate rental is $2.

At this GBM we'll be mixing things up! We'll be hosting a discussion centered around a theme. This month's theme is service. In addition to discussing service in Islam, we'll also be making goodie bags for the Ronald McDonald House! In doing this, we hope to create a forum for thoughtful dialogue around issues and topics related to Islam and contribute to an amazing cause! As usual, all are welcome to attend and there will be FREE pizza!

Join us, as Vandy MSA along with the Islamic Center of Nashville and American Muslim Advisory Council, host renonwed guest speaker, Imam Marc Manley, who will address a wide spectrum of social justice issues and how they are addressed in Islam. Imam Manley is very well accredited and is the former chaplain of University of Pennsylvania and Religious Director at Inland Empire in California. He is also the author of the "Manrilla Blog - Exploring Islam in America Through the Social Sciences", where he writes about pertinent issues facing America’s Muslim community today. His writing has been recognized nationally through a number of venues and continues to recieve widespread acknowledgement. Imam Manley, who completed his ijazah (license) in the concentration of khutbah at Quba Institute, will address a number of social justice issues that have plagued our nation and Muslim community during his talk. This is a great event for all Muslims and non-Muslims alike; everyone is welcome to learn how to address Islamaphobia, racism, and much more! FREE PARKING will be made available. It will be located at Terrace Garage and is located at the intersection of 21st South Avenue and Terrace Place. The Muslim Students Association will be hosting a halaqa in the annex (behind Featheringill and next to the Office of Religious Life) at 6:00 on Tuesday, October 20th. We will pray Maghrib and then listen to a 30 minute halaqa from a guest speaker. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Islam. Hope to see you there!
