0.0000Ramadan Fundraiser Iftar - Expansion updates & Phase 1
Assalamu Alaikum Dear MAS SI Community Members, You are cordially invited to our Ramadan Fundraising Iftar this upcoming Ramadan. With our trust in Allah (swt) and your continuous support, we are very excited to share with you the upcoming phase of our expansion project. As part of the Iftar, we will discuss our accomplishments and the upcoming steps in the journey to a state-of-art Islamic center in Staten Island. Some of the updates that will be covered in more details at the event: • Approval to demolish our neighboring property at 170 Burgher Avenue, Staten Island. • Based on many consultations with architects we found a way to construct the new center in phases, which means we won’t need to move out of our current location. • We conducted a community town-hall meeting to integrate community requirements and wish-list into the layout of the new center. Some of these included a multi-purpose basketball/gymnasium, a comfortable prayer space for brothers and sisters, and possibly a café, library, lounge, etc. • We will share the updated preliminary design. • We have secured a loan of $500K for building and our current fundraising goal is $400,000, which will give us enough to initiate the first phase of construction. Crystal Room 67 Olympia Blvd Staten Island, NY 10305 Date: June 2, 2017 at 6pm Ticket: $50 (sold at office and at the event location) There will be a rich kids program while you enjoy updates, a delicious Iftar, fundraiser, and nightly prayer with our beloved Reciter Ahmad Alsissi.

0.0000Fired Up: A Turning Point
In a time of heightened anxiety and perceived social distress, we question the outcomes of certain events. However, we, as Muslims and ambassadors of Allah (SWT), must internalize and accept that tomorrow has been written, the pens have been lifted, and the ink has dried. History has a tendency to repeat itself and if we reflect on the outcomes of the Battle of Uhud, we can realize that letting our guard down can be destructive. Now more than ever, we must put our differences aside and unite under the banner of Islam to strengthen our community and the community at large by putting our faith into practice. By doing so, we increase our relationships with Allah SWT and pave the road for ourselves and those around us towards success...Jannah. Join us for our monthly revive as Br. Mohammed Badawy delves into how we as Muslims can take today's political climate as an opportunity to exemplify Islam in its true light. We will also be having an interactive self-reflection game, which will act as a marker to begin setting milestones to better ourselves in the new year, inshaAllah. On the authority of Abu Sa’eed al-Khudree (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say, “Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith.” [Muslim]

0.0000The Best of Planners
In our current climate of hate and uncertainty in America, we are being faced with many challenges as Muslim Americans. The fear for our safety. The uncertainty of our future in America. The feelings of helplessness and alienation in our own country. Yet we need to remember that Allah sees our struggles more than anyone else. His plans for us outweigh those of anybody else. We need to remind ourselves to strengthen our faith in Allah because Allah is the best of planners. "... they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners" (8:30). Join us at the MAS Staten Island Center as Sheikh Mohammad Elshinawy speaks about how to balance the challenges we face with hope in Allah's plans for us. Dinner will be served!

0.0000The Power of Fear - with Br. Rami Kawas
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt Fear affects many aspects of our daily lives. The pressure to conform or hide due to fear of not fitting in. The fear of not having a voice, the fear of danger can stop you from standing up for yourself and the other people around you. The world can be difficult when fear has stricken our hearts. We have always had fear in our lives, but now we are living in a time where people are promoting hatred that comes from fear. Fear can make or break you. Join Rami Kawas at the MAS SI Center to learn more about the power of fear. Dinner will be served. #ThePowerOfFearMASSI
