Assalaamualaikum! This Saturday, March 11th 9:00am, IOK will be continuing its FREE Monthly Seminar Series titled Positive & Practical Parenting. This month's guest speaker is Sr. Marwa Asar and the topic is “Building Emotional Resilience in Your Children.” Sr. Marwa Assar is a psycho-spiritual educator dedicated to providing spiritual, mental, and emotional empowerment through an Islamic Psychological lens. Marwa has completed her Bachelors Degree (B.A) in Psychology, her Masters of Education degree (Ed.M) in Counseling Psychology, and is currently a doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, specializing and completing a research study on an Islamic psychological approach to psychotherapy. Her experience consists of counseling adolescent boys who struggled with drug addiction and behavioral issues, counseling children with social and behavioral challenges, group counseling, as well as providing therapy to Muslim youth and adults. In addition, she has been a professor of Psychology at Bergen Community College and Felician University in New Jersey. Her passion for many years has been studying Islam and exploring the psychological tools within it that can help us improve our mental, emotional, and spiritual state. In addition to her research, she is constantly furthering her Islamic education and consulting with scholars and teachers to understand and formulate psychological concepts and tools through an Islamic lens. A complimentary continental breakfast will be served from 9-9:30 a.m., and the lecture will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. in the main musalla. Babysitting will be available. Friday, August 26, 2016, IOK will be having its monthly Friday Night with Shaykh and Shaykha. Please join us at 6:00pm for Asr Salat followed by brothers and sisters sessions with Shaykh Jamaal and Shaykha Muslema. After Asr: Shaykha Muslema will be teaching from the Spiritual Aphorisms of Ibn Ata’illah. These short aphorisms are packed with wisdoms and lessons for our daily spiritual journeys. Shaykh Jamaal will be socializing and playing basketball with the youth. 7:00pm there will be Dinner followed by Maghrib Salat. After Maghrib, Shaykh Jamaal will be completing his series on the Four Imams by covering the life of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal. We look forward to seeing you inshāAllāh.

Join us at IOK this Friday with a full day of activities with the "Shaykh & Shaykha", Shaykh Jamaal and Shaykha Muslema. Programming includes Jumu'ah Salaat led by Shaykh Jamaal to a LIVE Q&A with the couple afterwards. Then resuming at 6:30pm will be a sisters only session with Shaykha Muslema on the 40 Hadith of Seeking Knowledge while the brothers will socialize with Shaykh Jamaal. The day will conclude with an evening session "Understanding Current Issues in Light of Islam". Note: This is an educational yet spiritually uplifting day of learning and motivation for the entire family inshaAllah. Dinner and refreshment will be available to purchase.
