Final Destination - Our Journey Home

From the graves to the garden, and everything in between. The Yemeni scholar Imam Abdallah Ibn Alawi Al Haddad. lays out the stages of life in his work "The Lives of Man." Our minds are often ensnared in the here and now of the second life- Dunya - the time we currently inhabit in our temporary pit stop on earth. But after the pangs of death take their toll, a series of next steps will inevitably transpire.Join us as we learn about the journeys that await in the next stages of existence. From the grave to the Scales of the Day of Judgment. Across As-Sirat (the bridge) to the Hawd (Pool) and penultimate intercession. And finally, the gardens of Paradise and the pits of the Hellfire.

Epistemicide: Burning the Roots of Knowledge

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah does not withhold knowledge by snatching it away from his servants, but rather he withholds knowledge by withholding scholars, until no scholar remains and people follow ignorant leaders. They are asked and they issue judgments without knowledge. Thus, they are astray and lead others astray.” [Bukhari and Muslim] What is epistemology and where do we receive our knowledge from? Who has the authority to interpret foundational texts and extrapolate meaning from them? The knowledge systems that we are indoctrinated by today are tainted by colonization, secularism and liberalism. Revelation is no longer considered Truth and the foundations of epistemology are being destroyed as each individual's personal truth is as valid as another individual's equally weighted, but opposite truth. How do we navigate the current state of affairs and distinguish those qualified to speak Truth against those who sound true? Come join us with Imam Mikaeel Smith for a conversation on this topic.

Allah or the Oppressor: Whose Love Do We Seek?

Ka’b ibn Ujrah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to us while we were a group of nine. The Prophet said, “Verily, tyrannical rulers will come after me and whoever affirms their lies and supports their oppression has nothing to do with me and I have nothing to do with him, and he will not drink with me at the fountain in Paradise. Whoever does not affirm their lies and does not support their oppression is part of me and I am part of him, and he will drink with me at the fountain in Paradise.” The oppressor's touch looms ominously over much of the world, but at the end of the day, Allah SWT is always in control. In the face of hegemony and oppression, what motivates our actions, spiritual states, and beliefs? Diseases of the heart can pull the believer towards a dark path - the support of monstrous militaries, love for the wealthy and powerful, and a hapless acceptance of the borders, rules, and ideologies imposed by ill-intentioned outsiders. How can we begin breaking out of mental frameworks that seek the adoration and approval of manmade structures over Allah? What is it that Allah wants from us in these tumultuous times? Join us as we delve into these questions and attempt to break down the colonized mindset with Brother Cyrus McGoldrick!

Hadith Night - Shaykh Taha Abdul Basser and Mufti Muntasir Zaman

The event will begin after Isha (8:00 PM) and will be followed by a Question & Answer session. The Relationship Between the Qur'an and Hadith Yahya related to me from Malik that he heard that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "I have left two matters with you. As long as you hold to them, you will not go the wrong way. They are the Book of Allah and the Sunna of His Prophet." [Muwatta of Imam Malik] How do ahadith, the rigorously researched reports detailing the statements and actions of the Messenger ﷺ, relate to the Qur'an? What should we understand about the ways in which the two sources dovetail and influence one another? What do we make of claims that the Qur'an alone is sufficient as guidance for a Muslim? Selected Readings from the Musnad of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal Sh. Taha will be reading selected passages from the Musnad of Imam Ahmad, a famous collection of hadith organized by the founder of the Hanbali madhab (school of thought). Join us as we sit together and take benefit from the timeless words of the Messenger ﷺ. Speaker Biographies Mufti Muntasir Zaman Mufti Muntasir Zaman was born in Queens, New York where he completed the memorization of the Qur'an. Scholars of the Schools: The Four Great Imams

See schedule: http://bit.ly/1MECX9L The work of the illustrious great imams and the legions of students that followed them have preserved much of Islamic law up until the present day. Who were they? How were they connected to one another? And ultimately, what lessons can we draw from their remarkable examples for our own lives? The Power of Dua

“There is nothing more dear to Allah Ta’ala than a servant making dua to him.” [at Tirmidhi] “The person who does not ask from Allah Ta’ala, Allah Ta’ala becomes angry with him.” [at Tirmidhi, Ahmad] “Du’a is a weapon of a believer, a pillar of religion, and a light of the heavens and the earth.” [al-Hakim] “The Prophet, salAllahu alaiyhi wasalam, said to him while Ibn-Abbas was riding behind him on the same mount;”young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]:Be mindful of Allah and you will find him in front of you. If you ask, ask only Allah and if you seek help, seek help only from Allah. And know that if all the nations were to gather together to benefit you, they would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and if they gather together to harm you, they would harm you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you.
