We will only allow youth thirteen years or older to watch the film. As the film's setting is in the lands of Palestine and Jordan during the Crusades, the film does have scenes of war. The film DOES NOT have explicit or inappropriate scenes though. We will be providing food and drinks for this event at no cost. Our first gathering will be focused on cleaning the grounds of Guiding Light Islamic Center and Wisteria Landing Condominiums along Six Mile Lane. We are reminded of the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah: “Every small bone of everyone has upon it a charitable act for everyday upon which the sun rises. Bringing about justice between two is an act of charity. Helping a man get on his mount, lifting him onto it or helping him put his belongings onto it, is a charitable act. A good word is a charitable act. Every step you take toward the prayer is a charitable act. And removing a harmful thing from the path is a charitable act.” Please let us know if you would like to help. You may bring children, friends, coworkers, and whomever else may be interested. We will supply gloves and trash bags! The temperatures should be in the 40s, so dress appropriately.

They will discuss treaties, diplomatic letters, and other primary sources that serve to counter common media manipulation of public opinion toward a conception of Islam being "spread by the sword" or a "clash of civilization" between Islam and Christianity. 0.0000The Big Table: World's Largest Potluck
Please register here: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07eehf4i2283e913cd&llr=ck7qjtdab Magical things happen when people get together for a meal. They eat. They talk. They connect. In a time with many opposing points of view, we need meaningful dialogue and respectful spaces to come together as neighbors. This is what we are hoping to create with The Big Table. At the event, people will be organized into tables of 8, some of whom will be strangers. Volunteers will help facilitate the evening's conversation. We'll share stories about the food we bring, about meaningful tables, about our lives, about ourselves. There will be no central stage or entertainment schedule. The only goal will be to engage with each other, and leave as friends rather than strangers. MAYBE WE'LL EVEN BREAK A WORLD RECORD! We are hoping for at least 2000 attendees, which would put Louisville on the map for the World's Largest Potluck. We are looking for 250 Table Hosts to welcome participants and fascilitate conversation. If you can participate in this way, sign up here: http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=ck7qjtdab&oeidk=a07eeglwz4fdcb6d121 FAQ - Freqently Asked Questions *Who should come? Everyone! Regardless of age, gender, creed or culture, you are welcome. We hope to engage the broad spectrum of Louisville's community. *What should I bring? 1) A dish to share: each family should bring a generous dish to share. Larger groups should bring main and side dish(es). ** Use a recipe with a family connection, or something you just really like! There will be no power or ice, so please use coolers or insulating dishes to keep your food cold (or hot) and safe to eat. 2) Serving utensils for your dish(es). 3) Drinks: bring your own drinks. We will not have access to ice. (Please no alcohol. We will be in a public park.) 4) Your recipe: out of respect for those with special dietary needs or observances, please attach a recipe card. If the recipe is a secret, a simple ingredient list will do. As most food will be prepared in home kitchens, we cannot promise it will be free from contact with possible allergans. No responsibility will be assumed by the cook, or the organizing committee. Please use your best judgement. ** For the Guiness World Record, one person is counted per dish brought, so be creative! *Should we bring plates? No. Plates, napkins and eating utensils will be provided. *Where can I park? Stay tuned - we’ll provide detailed information closer to the date. *Isn't this the same day of that awesome Dare To Care Hunger Walk? Yes. You can do both! The potluck starts late enough that you can join us at the Big Table for dinner after the Dare to Care event. Stop at one of our amazing international neighborhood restaurants to pick up your dish to share! We will be posting resturants near Iroquois Park where you can purchase a dish for the potluck.

We invite all members of the Muslim community and beyond to our second Know your Rights program at Guiding Light Islamic Center. We will have Nima Kulkarni of Indus Law Firm and Soha Saiyed of Abney & McCarthy discuss and take questions about immigration, employment discrimination, and other related items. We will have these concerns addressed and urge everyone to spread the word about this program and not be afraid to attend and field your own questions whether general or specific. This is an important moment and we must educate ourselves.
