It is also a place we come to renew our commitments to working together as Muslims, with intentional humility and consciousness. The DMV Exchange was formed out of a growing concern we have and an increasing awareness of the fragmentation in the Muslim community, and how this potentially damages our individual work and mission, as well as the constituents we serve. A volunteer steering committee of interested organizations is formed each year to ensure there is diverse representation, that the agenda for the gathering is set and led by the participants, and that participants help to maintain up-to-date list of resources and events. The steering committee membership is open to any Muslim leader who would like to volunteer and join and feels passionate about the DMV Exchange. There are no more than 2 participants per organization in both the steering committee as well as at the event. View session proposals to date here: http://bit.ly/Exchange2018Responses

As salaamulaikum friends. Come join us this Thursday for our weekly dhikr circle in which we can take a short portion of the evening away from all of our worldly concerns, and rememeber the Most Merciful. Also as the blessed days of Muharram approach the 10th, we will devote some of our poetry to our Master, Sayyidna Husain, peace be upon him, his parents, and his Grandfather. The sacrifice of Imam Husain is the epitome of Ihsan (Perfection), as he no longer saw himself, but only the Divine - something we attempt to achieve every week. Join us! Chai provided. Meraj and Suphia ------- Weekly gathering for remembrance, meditation, dhikr and chanting will meet at our place Thursday night, at 7:30pm. Come join, participate, energize your soul, and clear your mind of the hustle of daily life. Weekly Remembrance / Dhikr Circle and Potluck Iftar 6/15

After poetry, invocation, and meditation we shall break fast together potluck style. Please bring something to share, and since the first week has gone by many folks might have a bunch of food in the fridge that will inevitably be trashed - DON'T DO IT. Bring it tonight, leftovers are fine and encouraged. If you will miss the dhikr because of rushing to make/buy food for iftar, then forget about the food and come for dhikr instead. God-willing, there is always enough. See you Thursday! Salaams. Meraj and Suphia O moon-faced lover, the fasting month of Ramadan has come. Tie up some tight knots in your tablecloths, the upward path towards reaching God has just become wide open. It doesn't matter if you're a clueless wanderer, or a spiritually detached individual, this is the perfect month for you to come back to God. How long will you keep on searching for some halwa-sweets? Dig deeper, search for the actual halwa-maker [ALLAH] {excerpt from Mawlana Jalaluddin's Divan, Ghazal 2344} ------- Weekly gathering for remembrance, meditation, dhikr and chanting will meet at our place Thursday night, at 7:30pm. A Qawwali Tribute

This rare event will include a tribute qawwali concert by Fana Fi Allah Qawwal and short multimedia activities to bring a deeper awareness of this Sufi tradition. This unique group of North American Qawwals (Sufi musicians) have trained traditionally with masters in South Asia. They will be joined by educators and will discuss their journey and inner experiences, explain the details. In this time of religious extremism, there are still those who are carrying the flame of religious tolerance, devotion and mysticism- and the Sufi’s are some of the most ancient. Fanna-Fi-Allah carries the tradition and teachings of the Sufi’s in their music, the devotionally driven and passionate music of Qawwali. Through many years of study and practice under the guidance of Qawwali masters of India and Pakistan, their expression of Qawwali music has become an authentic representation and continuation of this ancient tradition of Sufi music. Sufism is alive and well in India and Pakistan, where Qawwali music celebrates the great Sufi mystics of old, and relishes in the love of the Divine through poetry. Sung with a powerful and soaring melodious chorus and accompanied by entrancing energetic rhythms of tabla and group clapping, the Beloved is celebrated with ecstatic devotion. Fanna-Fi-Allah gives audiences a glimpse inside this rich and vibrant Sufi culture, to which many would otherwise never experience. The groups founding members have spent over 20 years learning this classical art-form. During their 15 years of world-wide touring they have played at many major international festivals. They have enthralled audiences in the USA, Pakistan, Europe, Indonesia, India, Egypt, and others, with their dynamic skill, and passionate musical precision. With ten albums already published, Fanna-Fi-Allah have now given us an even greater glimpse into this Sufi world of Pakistan with the production of their new documentary: Music of the Mystics.

Weekly Remembrance / Dhikr Circle and Potluck Iftar

O Most Subtle and Gentle, all Kindness and is from You! You are the Latif, and from You the Kindness engulfs us. O Most Subtle and Gentle, I beg You by Your Kindness- be the Merciful to me - and the Kindness has descended! As salaamulaikum friends. The last nights are upon us, the best possible time to remove all distractions form our path, and run swiftly to our Lord. However, the cost is steep: sleepless nights, fatigue, and pain in our souls. Lucky for us, Ramadan causes all of these symptoms! In these last nights, we ask our Lord to grant us Peace, and by His Subtle Gentleness and Kindess, to envelop us in his Mercy and save us from these seemingly daily acts of horror and inhumanity. Join us as we empty ourselves of our selves, and imbibe the noor and energy to continue seeking God in this last week. We will begin at 7:30pm. After poetry, invocation, and meditation we shall break fast together potluck style. The Fasting month of Ramadan has come for the purposes of purification of our heart, but the Righteous Owner of our heart is also with us." {excerpt from Ghazal 370 of Mawlana Rumi} As salaamulaikum friends. A week of Ramadan has already departed! In the hustle of worldly responsibilities, breaking fasts all over town, rushing to night prayers, and battling the alarm clock at 3:45 - we often forget to take some time alone with our Creator. The fast should be helping us attain God Consciousness, so let us take time on Thursday evening to reflect and remember Him. After poetry, invocation, and meditation we shall break fast together potluck style. Please bring something to share, and since the first week has gone by many folks might have a bunch of food in the fridge that will inevitably be trashed - DON'T DO IT.
