Islamophobia in the West

Join Vanderbilt MSA along with the Wesley Fellowship as we commemorate the end of Islamic Awareness week with our cap off event! We will be hosting two renowned guest speakers, Dr. Todd Green and Dr. Jonathan Brown, who will address issues regarding the misconceptions about Islam. As we switch gears to the second portion after dinner, Dr. Brown, the Alwaleed bin Talal Chair of Islamic Civilization in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and Director of the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding, will cover the root of Islamophobia with regard to commonly misinterpreted verses of the Quran and life of the Prophet. MSA: General Body Meeting

At this GBM we'll be mixing things up! We'll be hosting a discussion centered around a theme. This month's theme is service. In addition to discussing service in Islam, we'll also be making goodie bags for the Ronald McDonald House! In doing this, we hope to create a forum for thoughtful dialogue around issues and topics related to Islam and contribute to an amazing cause! As usual, all are welcome to attend and there will be FREE pizza!

Social Justice in Islam: From Awareness to Action

Join us, as Vandy MSA along with the Islamic Center of Nashville and American Muslim Advisory Council, host renonwed guest speaker, Imam Marc Manley, who will address a wide spectrum of social justice issues and how they are addressed in Islam. Imam Manley is very well accredited and is the former chaplain of University of Pennsylvania and Religious Director at Inland Empire in California. He is also the author of the "Manrilla Blog - Exploring Islam in America Through the Social Sciences", where he writes about pertinent issues facing America’s Muslim community today. His writing has been recognized nationally through a number of venues and continues to recieve widespread acknowledgement. Imam Manley, who completed his ijazah (license) in the concentration of khutbah at Quba Institute, will address a number of social justice issues that have plagued our nation and Muslim community during his talk. This is a great event for all Muslims and non-Muslims alike; everyone is welcome to learn how to address Islamaphobia, racism, and much more! FREE PARKING will be made available. It will be located at Terrace Garage and is located at the intersection of 21st South Avenue and Terrace Place. We can use as many parking spaces as we need as long as they are not one of the reserved spots or pay spots.
