Texas Impact - Health Insurance Policy In Texas

We are from Texas Impact, a statewide interfaith advocacy network based in Austin, and we are part of Cover Texas Now (CTN), a coalition of organizations working to bridge the health insurance coverage gap in Texas. As part of this project, we are reaching out to student leaders across the state to share information and to see how you and your group might get engaged in the effort to ensure that all Texans have access to healthcare. You may know that despite having the highest uninsured rate in the country, Texas has, for the last eight years, opted out of billions of dollars in Medicaid expansion funds provided by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This decision has left low-income Texans, including many young adults and students, no feasible options for getting health insurance. While this is a statewide problem, some counties are getting hit harder than others. Take a look at the numbers for Dallas County: 238,543 uninsured Texans 47,694 jobs that could be created by expanding medicaid $580,498,427 in federal funds your county could be receiving each year As student leaders, you are in a position not only to educate your community on health care policy, but through your influence at your university, also to inspire elected officials to improve the quality of lives of nearly one million uninsured Texans who fall in the coverage gap. Everybody Hands Go Up!!! | Helping Hand Community Service

Assalam Alaikum all! Throughout the year Helping hands take new and used clothes donated by the locals in Dallas and ships them internationally to places that need them the most for example: Pakistan, the Syrian refugees in Jordan, Sudan, and many other places that need it. But they need our help! We will take the clothes and organize them into boxes so that they can be ready to be shipped and distributed. Come out and join us from 10 am up until 1. You're free to come in later or leave earlier!

UTD MSA Annual Fast-A-Thon

Our annual Fastathon is a campus-wide event, in which we invite students and faculty alike to fast together for one day in order to raise awareness about those around the world who are not as fortunate as us, no matter what religion/ethnicity/race/etc. The goal is to simply reach out to our campus and community members and try to revive that ramadan spirit! The theme for this year is, "The Substance of Things Not Seen". Acts of kindness, God consciousness, having faith in God’s plans, and the great people that we didn’t know. Donations will go to Islamic Relief and Helping Hand. The entrance fee is a can food item. If this is your first time fasting, don't be intimidated! When Muslims fast, we stop eating a little before dawn. We break our fast at dusk, which will be during the event. Doors open at 7:00 pm and our speaker is Ustadh Adam Jamal in the Galaxy Rooms. Dress code for the event is formal wear. We hope to see you there insaAllah!

Fast-A-Thon 2015
