MAIRA SHEIKH (Executive Director, CAIR-Austin) Maira has served as executive director of the Austin chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations since October 2017. She previously worked as a Senior Research Fellow in South Asia specializing in international law, human rights, the law of armed conflict and counter-terrorism. Maira has a Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School and a Bachelors from Temple University.

HOPE DOTY (Voter Advocate, Elections Judge) Hope is a US Air Force veteran. The first time she ever picked up a gun, in basic training, she missed earning the marksmanship ribbon by 2 points on the M-16, which still sticks in her craw. Hope left the service to complete her BA in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she met her husband of nearly 25 years. She later ran a web consulting business with her husband for over a decade. Hope has been an active voter advocate for the last 16 years. In 2016 alone, she registering nearly 500 voters in two Texas counties. She also works as an Elections Judge. Trivia: Hope became an accidental long-distance runner at the age of 51 and once achieved 10 miles in 1 run. For fun. Go figure! External Event Url
