Over 200 million women and girls are living with the consequences of Female Genital Mutilation/ Cutting (FGM/C) worldwide. FGM/C cuts across race, religion, geography, and socioeconomic class. FGM/C predates Islam and Christianity, and the practice (in all of its forms) has no place in Islam. FGM/C however is widely misunderstood by Muslims from a religious, cultural, and health-based perspective. Such misunderstandings have led to the perpetuation of the practice as a religiously based obligation within certain cultures and as a tool to control the sexuality of women and girls.

This event seeks to address the need for an open forum to educate the community about FGM/C. We have brought together a diverse panel of religious leaders, health practitioners, grassroots activists, and a survivor of FGM/C to weigh in on this issue. Please join us for what we hope is the start to a nationwide conversation aimed at ending FGM/C not only here in the United States, but globally. External Event Url
