Maryam Islamic Center invites our Interfaith partners & community to celebrate Black History Month in collaboration with the Council on American-Islamic Relations Texas (CAIR-TX). Br. Mustafaa Carroll will open up our event with an introduction on the significance of the documentary and how it affects us today. Neshoba: The Price of Freedom synopsis: “In 1964, three civil rights activists go missing in Mississippi. The bodies of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner are found months later, and the three Klansman accused of murdering them are put on trial. All three are found not guilty, including Edgar Ray Killen who openly flaunts his involvement in the killings for years after the trial. Interviews with local community members and the victim's families highlight the ongoing effort to bring Killen to trial a second time.” This event is open to individuals ages 13 and above ONLY. We look forward to seeing you all at this FREE viewing in honor of Black History Month.

Untying Life's Knots: Overcoming Challenges Through Prayer
Risala Foundation is pleased to host Shaykh Alaeddin El-Bakri for its annual Ramadan Qiyaam program. In his famous poem, al-Munfarijah, Imam Ibn Nahwi wrote, "Get worse, oh trouble, so that you may be lifted For your night has announced the breaking of the dawn And even the darkness of the night has its gleams until the father of these gleams overwhelms them Contentment with God’s decree will untie the knot so make it your focus and turn your mount towards it So if the doors of guidance are opened then hurry into their treasuries and stay there" We all face challenges, difficulties and tests in life. Our faith provides a beautiful blueprint on how to face these with bravery and trust. Join us for an enlightening session on how we should face the "knots" in our lives. This program will include lecture, prayer, recitation and Dua. SHAYKH ALAEDDIN EL-BAKRI began his study of Islam at a young age in North Africa and continued his education in the Islamic sciences in Jordan, learning from pre-eminent scholars in the Muslim world. He has served the Muslim community in the United States in numerous capacities, serving as Imam in several Islamic centers.

Ilm Night w/ Sh Omar Suleiman - The Story of Salman Al-Farsi
Would you seek the truth……despite the cost? Imprisoned by his father, betrayed by scholarly authority and enslaved in a strange land: All obstacles on the arduous Journey of Salman the Persian. This is the story of one man’s struggle to find the truth. Relive the journey as Salman journeys from Persia to Syria to Arabia…as a Zoroastrian priest, a dedicated Christian, and finally a Companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Unique Vantage Point in a World Awaiting Muhammad ﷺ Islam came to the Arabs, whereas Salman traversed from outside the Arab world searching high and low. He brought with him insight and experience strange to the Arabs of the time: -Intimate view of the Persian and Roman empires of the time -Time spent in Persia as a Zoroastrian Fire Keeper -Experience with the dying strands of early Christianity -Study in Nestorian churches of each town he visited -Entering Madinah recognizing it as the prophesied city of the Prophet -Powerful moment of meeting the Prophet ﷺ for the very first time Overcome Your Own Struggles With Seeking the Truth. Every path to truth is met with obstacles. Most experience just one or two, whereas Salman encountered them all. Non-practicing and/or adversarial parents Corrupted teachers and scholarly leadership Lack of resources Face of doubt and insecurities Alienation and isolation upon accepting the truth Classical sources in foreign languages How the Prophet ﷺ Treated Salman Not only are there lessons for every truth seeker… ...learn how the Prophet ﷺ cared, integrated, welcomed and learned from Salman the Persian. These are lessons for anyone with: -an inquisitive mind -a friend asking critical questions about Islam -a family member coming back to religion -a convert community trying to transition -anyone struggling with the truth -The Prophet ﷺ placed his hand upon Salman’s and said, “By the One in whose Hand is my soul! If faith were on Pleiades (the stars) then men among these people would reach it.” [Tirmidhi] This IlmNight, transform your relationship with your own personal path to the truth.

Join us as we get together to make sandwiches at the Masjid and deliver them hundreds of under priviliged members of our society. We will meet at the masjid on Saturday June 25th at 5pm to assemble the samdwiches/snacks and deliver the food bags on Sunday June 26 at the Loaves & Fishes food kitchen. Please arrive at the masjid at 9AM sharp to pick up sandwich packs, and we'll head to downtown from there. Anyone and everyone is welcome, all religions (or lack thereof) as we come together for a wonderful cause. We need items to be donated on Saturday to make the lunch packs. These items include: - sliced bread - peant butter - jelly - sandwich sized ziploc bags - plastic gloves - snacks (such as chips, candy, crackers) - fruit - t-shirt bags - anything else you think would be useful/helpful!
