The Islamic Society of BU presents our first annual FAST-A-THON! As part of our Islam Awareness Month, we wanted to create awareness about the Islamic way of life on campus. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, as it helps Muslims develop self-control, gain a better understanding of God’s gifts and greater compassion towards the deprived.

What is a Fast-a-thon? On this day, we encourage everyone to join us with fasting from food and water frum dawn until dusk. With the money you would have spent on lunch, we would like to encourage everyone to donate it the charity we are supporting, Islamic Relief for the Somalia Famine. (http://irusa.org/somalia/) In the evening, we invite everyone to break your fast with our ISBU community, as we enjoy a traditional Middle Eastern dinner catered by Black Seed Cafe & Grill!

Our prestigious speaker, Imam Taymullah Abdur-Rahman is currently the Imam at Harvard University. He received a diploma in Islamic Sciences from the Saudi Arabian Council of Senior Scholars in 2006. In addition, he has studied Arabic and Islamic theology with several traditional scholars over the past ten years with concentration on cultivating the heart. Imam Taymullah served as Muslim chaplain for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections for seven years.

We look forward to having you join us for an eventful evening inshallah! External Event Url
