The Grand Banquet: 7 Years On, Forgotten Heroes

Students across London and the Midlands have been organising and taking part in events, stalls, exhibitions (the list is endless), in order to raise funds and donate items towards the 'Container Project'. The container project involves packing a 40ft shipping container full of aid and shipping it directly to Syria. It is by far one of the cheapest and most effective ways of sending aid to Syria. The aid sent will include, ambulances, medical equipment and supplies, food and clothing. We will be supplying field hospitals within Syria. The need was assessed via advice from people within Syria. Sourcing medical supplies remains difficult and the constant targeting of hospitals and ambulances means that equipment and vehicles need replacing. Project Breakdown: Ambulances, Equipment, Drugs, Orthopaedic, Consumables, Food and Clothes As the academic year comes to an end, we would like to invite you to a 3-course-meal and a night of unity on Thursday 22nd March 2018. Together, we will reflect, renew our intentions and discover how our donations will improve the lives of many. Joining us will be guest speakers and a fundraiser to end the night. Date: Thursday 22nd March 2018 Time: 6:00pm-9:00pm Registration: 5:00pm-6:00pm Location: The Atrium, 124 Cheshire Street, London, E2 6EJ Dress Code: Formal Attire Tickets: £15 Early Bird / 5 for £50 Link: bit.ly/thegrandbanquet Donate: everydayhero.co.uk/event/syria-container

Learning to Live in a Multi-Faith Society: The Prophetic Example

Many, if not the majority of, Muslims today live in multi-faith and multi-cultural societies. Despite what the media is sometimes trying to make us believe, in most cases this coexistence works pretty well, and Muslims and Non-Muslims live peacefully side by side. However, sometimes there are frictions, disagreement, even hate and violence. Muslims are encouraged to follow the example of the Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him). What did inter-faith relations look like under his rule in the early days of Islam? How did he treat Non-Muslims and what can we learn from the Prophetic example? This Interfaith Week, join us for this talk by Warwick alumni Sheikh Arsalan Ahmed. Islam & Me: Islam in Mauritius

Many Western debates on Islam tacitly assume that Islam is a South Asian or Middle Eastern phenomenon. Yet only 25% of Muslims are Arabs, the biggest Muslim country is Indonesia in South East Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa has substantial Muslim communities too. This diversity is also reflected at Warwick, where many of ISoc's members are from South Asia, the Middle East but also South East Asia. After hosting an Islam and Me event on Islam in Malaysia last term, this year Warwick ISoc is delighted to invite you to an Islam and Me talk on Islam in Mauritius. Our very own Muhammad Sajjaad Jeeawody will share insights into how Islam is practiced and understood on this island in the Indian Ocean.
