London Islamic School Annual Dinner

We are excited to announce the details of this year’s LIS Dinner being held this month on Saturday April 21st, 2018. The theme for this year is April Showers bring May Flowers highlighting the tremendous seeds that LIS has planted for the spiritual and intellectual growth fostered by great learning experiences of our students! Our guest speaker for the evening will be Sh. Fiyyaz Jaat who is a highly inspirational speaker for the youth and adult audiences. He is currently the director of youth services at ISNA National. Doors open up at 5:30pm. Tickets are available at the front office for $30 (Adult – Grade 5 and up) and $10 (Children’s Program – Ages 3 to Grade 4). Your Last Walk In The Mosque Screening in London, On

The London Muslim Mosque is proud to host Dawanet, MuslimFest, and Canada Zakat, to present: YOUR LAST WALK IN THE MOSQUE - a documentary about the horrific Quebec City Mosque shooting that happened a year ago. Please join us on January 28th, from 5:30 pm at LMM for the official screening of the documentary. Synopsis: A Quebec City mosque was at the centre of a brutal terrorist attack on January 29th, 2017, when a lone shooter entered the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec (CCIQ) in Sainte-Foy, Quebec and began shooting. Six men were killed, 19 more were injured in the first such attack at a place of worship on Canadian soil. YOUR LAST WALK IN THE MOSQUE details the horrific events of that night through the recollections of the survivors, including from those were severely injured in the attack or who witness the terror unfold. For the first time on film, we hear what impact the shooting had on the families of those who were killed as they share their harrowing reflections of loss and trauma. The documentary explores how the CCIQ was a target of hate crime and the past, raising critical questions about how to protect communities in a time of growing anti-Muslim sentiment. Feelings of sadness, loss, empathy, and hope are shared throughout this film which demonstrates the resilience of a targeted community working to heal from an unimaginable tragedy.

2nd Annual LIS Book Fair

The London Islamic School is hosting its second Annual Book Fair on Saturday, February 4th,2107 at the school's gym, 11am-6pm. There will be several vendors selling Islamic adult and children books in English and Arabic. Multifaith Call to Action & Solidarity for Syria - Urgent Appeal

The London Muslim community invites people of all backgrounds and faiths to join us for a solidarity event on Sunday at 6:00 pm in the London Muslim Mosque gym at 151 Oxford Street. Speakers will include Dr. Anas Elkassem from the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM) who are providing independent and impartial relief and medical care to victims in Syria. The people of Syria have undergone severe bloodshed over the past 5 years with records of hundreds of thousands of causalities, including infants and children. The recent tragedies and targeted killings in Aleppo and the deliberate targeting of health facilities and civilian rescue workers have caused outrage in the international community and we are calling on action from our world leaders. We recognize the leadership our government has taken but ask that they do more to help those in a dire situation.

Eid Al-Adha Prayers at Springbank Park

Eid Venue We are pleased to announce that this coming Eid Al-Adha prayer will be held at Springbank Park (1085 Commissioners road West. with takbeerat commencing at 8:30 am and the prayer being held at 9:00 in addition to the regular prayer being held at the Islamic Centre (also 8:30 takbeerat start and 9:00 prayer). With the growing number of Muslims within our city, the venue for the prayer needed to be revised to ensure the safety and comfort of our congregation. We also wanted to ensure that we were choosing a location that accommodated large numbers of vehicles for parking and would provide enough space for all to pray. This is in line with the Sunnah of the Prophet PBUH who used to perform the Eid prayer outdoors. • Please bring prayer mats as we will be praying directly on the field inshallah • Please do not leave any waste at the park and ensure that you are following park rules and the direction of volunteers • If you are staying at the park after the prayer, consider bringing water, snacks, sunscreen and lawn chairs Parking/Transportation In light of such changes, we ask our congregation to please be mindful of the timing for prayer and to allow themselves enough time to get to the park for the prompt start of the takbeerat and prayer. To help alleviate some of the traffic flow, we encourage you all to consider taking public transportation or car-pooling to help make the flow of traffic smoother. For those who are driving, parking is available at multiple locations throughout the park and are outlined in the map. Please be very careful of your surroundings as you are driving in/out of the park as there will be many pedestrians and young children around you. Eid Festival Due to the sudden change in venue, the Eid Festival will be postponed this Eid with further communication about timing and location to follow in the coming weeks. However, families are encouraged to take advantage of the Springbank venue and consider using the public playgrounds with their children following the Eid prayer. Please note that Storybook gardens is closed for the season. Eid Vendors Please be advised that the city does not allow the sale of items at the park. Retailers, sponsors and vendors who are interested in selling or distributing information at the Eid prayer/festival should contact ahage17@gmail.com beforehand. After an enjoyable and well-attended 3-on-3 tournament last summer, the London Muslim Mosque has now partnered with Spartan Basketball to run a bigger and better tournament this year! Each year we gather in the blessed month of Ramadan to help raise funds for projects that will help build and enhance our London community. LIS Annual Dinner

The London Islamic School is hosting its Annual Dinner on April 30th at the school's gym. Doors will open at 5pm. Please come and support our school while enjoying a delicious dinner and an entertaining program, with Guest speaker Asad Choudhary our new Principal. Get a chance to meet and speak to him! Children's program is available for children in grade 5 and younger. Tickets are available at the school's secretary's office and also at the school's gym and playground at dismissal time.

Focus Group: Engaging Men and Boys to End Violence in the Family

The Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) and White Ribbon (WR) will be hosting a focus group to hear from Muslim communities about how to engage men and boys to end violence in families. Feedback from participants will be used to help develop an engagement model toolkit for Canadian Muslim men and boys. Topics of discussion will include, but not limited to: Forced marriage, marital rape and other sexualized violence, elder abuse, female genital mutilation, physical violence, emotional violence, spiritual abuse, body shaming and guilt, etc. Looking to hear from: Male youth and adults, service professionals, civic leaders, faith leaders, and female youth and adults. NCCM Empowerment Tour: Leadership Bootcamp & Fundraising Dinner

The Fundraiser Dinner will be held on Jan. 23 and the Leadership Bootcamp will be on Jan. 24th. The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) advises and advocates on behalf of Canadians Muslims and others who have experienced violations of their human rights and civil liberties, including discrimination and hate crimes. NCCM has been serving Canadian Muslims and other groups for over a decade and a half. Please join NCCM when they visit London, ON on their 'Empowerment Tour' on Sat. Jan 23rd at the Best Western Lamplighter Inn at 5:30pm featuring comedian/lawyer, Dean Obeidallah. Tickets are $55/person or $500/table of 10, and can be purchased at the London Muslim Mosque and the Islamic Center of Southwest ON.
