World Hijab Day: Don a Hijab

Assalamu alaykum (May peace be with you)! To celebrate International Women’s Day and World Hijab Day, The Islamic Society of Darwin are proud to be hosting World Hijab Day: Don a Hijab! Join us on Sunday the 28th of February for a fun day of inspiring talks, spoken-word poetry, photobooth shenanigans, and hijab-styling workshops! In bringing this event to you, our aim is to promote trust, mutual understanding and respect across religious and cultural diversity. We want to celebrate the diversity and positive difference of our communities through recognising the achievements and stories of women! The following is our line-up of creative and spirited individuals who will be visiting Darwin for the first time: - Keynote Speaker: Safiyah Muyeen, lawyer and community worker from Melbourne hopes to engage and challenge with her talk ‘Muslim Women: Beyond the Hijab’. - Canadian spoken-word poet and award-winning writer and performer, Boonaa Mohammed, will move and inspire with his spoken-word poetry. - Hijab stylist, designer and director of The Haya Atelier boutique, Reyyan Emniyet, will conduct a workshop on how to wear the hijab (*The Haya Atelier is a new bespoke Melbourne headpiece and scarf styling salon, specialising in custom handmade bridal and exquisite headpieces for all occasions – the first of its kind in Australia!) And of course, some local Darwin talent! Henna artists will be available to get your ink on and hijabs and accessories will be available for sale. The first of its kind, this event is definitely one to mark in your diaries and save the date. Spaces are strictly limited, so the sooner you RSVP to women@isod.org.au, the count down can begin! This event is for all, both women and men, people of all backgrounds. Entry is with gold coin donation. Spread the word!
