In studying Imam al-Juwayni's Waraqaat, students will study the basics of the Islamic discipline of Usul al-Fiqh or "Islamic Legal Methodology." While fiqh involves knowledge of the legal rulings associated with deeds, obtained through specific evidences, usul al-fiqh involves the study of the evidences themselves. More completely, studying this science includes study of the following three: 1) Knowing the general evidences of fiqh, 2) How to use them, 3) the conditions of the person using them. Proper study of this subject allows for one to gain greater insight and better understanding into the Islamic legal system.
