Iqra’ is a class that will teach how to read properly in Arabic. It is for absolute beginners of the Arabic language, as well as those who consider themselves advanced. The course will teach all of the Arabic letters, their full names, and the vowels. It will also teach the letters’ characteristics (sifaat), and articulation points (makharij), which are areas where most reciters make mistakes. Students will have weekly opportunities to read, write and review with homework assignments. By the end of the course, students will inshaAllah leave being able to read the Qur’an. Students must come to class with a notebook, and be prepared to take notes. This class is a prerequisite to the advanced tajweed course.

Students in this class will be split into two sections based on their level, as determined by an exam. While one section recites the Qur’an, the other will be assisted by volunteers in completing their homework. Healthy snacks will also be provided.
