IONA sponsored Macomb County Warming Center

Assalam Alaikum, As in recent years IONA has encouraged and promoted volunteerism with the non-profit organization Warming Center of Macomb that arranges and helps facilitate emergency shelters for the homeless. These shelters are usually held at different houses of worship here in Macomb county for one week at a time. Our neighbors First Presbyterian of Warren @ 3000 Twelve Mile Road 48092 (just East of Dequindre) will be hosting homeless guests for 2 weeks starting March 4. They originally were scheduled for just March 11 to 17 but approached us to help with the week of March 4 since it was open with no churches being able to host. IONA has agreed to manage the shelter that week even though First Presbyterian is the host site. We are in need of volunteers from the Muslim community to fulfill our role. A schedule has been attached with the needed time slots and positions. Secondly we are looking for monetary donations to help pay for the needed supplies and food we will be responsible for. Please take the time to review the schedule and make a commitment to help others for the sake of Allah SWT. We are taking an unprecedented move to increase our assistance with the homeless population of Macomb County. It is our responsibility as Muslims. Contact me directly by email or phone to volunteer or make a donation. Any effort is welcome. Please do not hesitate but look at your own schedules and abilities and respond soon. Have no fear if this a new experience for you. There will be training and the tasks are simple. May Allah SWT accept from us our intentions and efforts, Ameen, Register at: https://tinyurl.com/IONAMCWC

Islam Conference: The Strange Religion

Join us on Saturday, September 30, at 6:00 PM at the IONA Center located on 28630 Ryan Rd, Warren, MI. We learn through a hadith that “Islam began as something strange, and shall return to being strange as it began, so blessed are the strangers.” These strangers are the ones who will reconstruct Islam in order to bring back its legacy and honor. They are the ones who adhere to the instructions of Allah (SWT) and His messenger. They are the ones who will follow in the footsteps of the Prophet (SAW) and his noble companions who had so ardently and assiduously constructed Islam. They did not go with the norm. They were looked upon as strangers. IONA invites invites its community to an evening of enlightenment and contemplation as we explore the concept of Islam in light of the Qur'an and the tradition of our Prophet, Muhammad (SAW) and with respect to our context. We hope you will come with your friends and family.

Women in Islam Conference - Muslim Women in America

Islamic Organication of North America present it's fourth annual Women in Islam Conference. Muslim Women in America - Challenges & Opportunities Islamophobia against Muslim women spiked after several mass shootings as well as post-election. Join us as our speakers address these challenges and learn how to support and empower our sisters and their crucial contributions. Among the esteemed speakers we will have our beloved sisters Ameena Almasmari, Fatima Salman and our Ameer Mustapha Elturk. Admission to the event is free. Sterling Heights Fall Pride & Shine Day

It's that time again for Pride and Shine volunteering in Sterling Heights. Twice a year we have the opportunity to help seniors and shut ins take care of their yard cleanup before winter sets in. A big obligation for us as Muslims is to care about the condition of our neighbors. This is also a great opportunity for us to build interfaith relationships as most of these neighbours are elderly men and women who have never interacted with Muslims face to face and are more liekly have no real knowledge of Islam. Let's show them our Islam rather than learn about us from biased media. Unlike other years this year's Pride and SHINE day is 3 days before our general elections, which makes it very critical for us muslims to be involved in this cause. Our involvement in these opportunities may make a huge difference in these peoples' lives and help them be open minded towards muslims and other races. Anyone willing to assist during this fall's Pride & SHINE Day should respond to assistantoutreach@ionaonline.org or may call 586-744-0638. "The City of Sterling Heights is once again getting ready for another Pride & SHINE Day, encouraging residents to make their properties “SHINE” in preparation for the summer season. The city has declared Saturday, Nov. 5th for the Fall Community Pride & SHINE day. The citywide cleanup is part of the SHINE (Sterling Heights Initiative for Neighborhood Excellence) program through the Community Relations Department. The program is aimed at protecting property values by encouraging all residents to maintain the exterior of their homes. The SHINE initiative works with school groups, civic and church groups to provide volunteers for those residents who need help with property maintenance because of age, physical disabilities or financial hardship. In the past, we have been fortunate enough to have several volunteers such as yourself, come out to contribute their time and efforts, which is greatly appreciated. This is a great opportunity for students, family members, organizations and co-workers to get involved with helping out their fellow neighbors and earn some community service hours. I've attached an informational flyer, in case you would like to spread the word. Volunteers will meet around 9:30 a.m. at First Church of Sterling Heights, located at 39400 Dequindre Road. Work assignments will not be longer than 3-4 hours. Coffee, water, bagel and doughnuts will be provided for volunteers. Once again, thank you for your volunteer spirit, and your continued support of keeping Sterling Heights a great place to live!"
