Abdelkader Education Project
“All the religions of the Book rest on two principles - to praise God and have compassion towards His creatures” *Who is Emir Abdelkader?* A world famous warrior, scholar, and Muslim of the 19th century. His legacy as a reconciler is a powerful example of leadership exhibiting universal values of moral courage, integrity, intellect, and compassion – transcending culture and faith traditions in pursuit of justice - standing against extremism for all of humanity. *Why does he matter in today's world?* During a time of rampant bigotry and hatred, our society has much to gain by adopting the leadership qualities that Emir Abdelkader embodied during his time - love of knowledge, ethical courage, compassion, and strength.

For the past couple of months, the Islamic Center of Southern California has been working with the Department of Justice and other government and community agencies to develop an informative program to answer some of the questions that might come up following a hate crime/incident - and to offer helpful resources that might assist in navigating the process to follow. Some of the discussion points will include: - Impact to communities after a major hate incident, hate crime, active shooter, or terrorism event - The difference between Hate Incidents and Hate Crimes - Identifying law enforcement and government agencies involved in responding to hate incidents/crimes and those who provide other relevant services - Identifying ways that the community and Stakeholders can collaborate to set message/tone and engage in solidarity activities We look forward to seeing you there!
