This student-dominated masjid, cultural center and school was established just north of the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe in 1984. Built on land once occupied by deserted and dilapidated houses, the distinctive architecture and ornamentation of the masjid is modeled after the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. Before the community was able to raise the donations necessary to build the center, Tempe Muslims would gather in local homes or travel to Phoenix masjids for Friday prayers. The masjid includes a minaret and golden dome, attached to an eight-sided structure embellished with tilework depicting verses from the Qur'an executed in calligraphy. Racks to store shoes and facilities for ablutions are downstairs, while the main prayer hall is up a flight of stairs. Across a courtyard from the masjid is the Islamic School, consisting of sixteen classrooms and offices.

Zaytuna College: Inner Dimensions of Fasting | Dr. Abdullah Ali

*Class intro will take place at ICC Tempe on Friday, 4/27 at 7 pm *Babysitting on Saturday: $15 per child *Class book: https://www.ghazali.org/books/fast.pdf Fasting is to abstain from indulging one’s carnal appetite. For most people, this means the mere abandonment of food, drink, and physical intimacy from dawn to dusk. But, for some, fasting is more than denying the body of its needs. Rather, it is a program of discipline with many subtle health and spiritual benefits. What are the merits of fasting? And, how does one fast beyond food and drink? Come learn how you can turn fasting into a tool for spiritual discipline through a study of Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali’s "Inner Dimensions of Fasting" taught by Dr. Abdullah bin Hamid Ali of Zaytuna College.

Friday Night Halaqa and fundraising in support of JetPAC

JetPac is visiting Arizona! Please join ICC in welcoming JetPac and hearing more about this amazing organization! Jetpac (Justice Education Technology Political Advocacy Center) seeks to build a strong American Muslim political infrastructure and increase our community’s influence and engagement. Their philosophy of change is rooted in a community-based approach, grassroots mobilization, civics training, and technology application. They have developed their own training curriculum, as well as proprietary social media technology and automation tools, to give their Fellows the skills and resources they need to win elections. In the immediate-term, they train adult professionals on grassroots mobilization, civic advocacy, and community organizing—including mentoring them on how to launch their political careers—through their Public Service Fellowship program. Their longer-view, more systematic approach is to educate American Muslim youth on civics and leadership. Please make sure to attend this event as it's sure to be a packed house in sha Allah

SAVE the Rohingya: Interfaith Walk & Vigil

Please join us as we come together as a community to show solidarity and raise awareness for the Rohingya- a minority of Muslims who are amongst the most persecuted in the world. Who: Rohingyas are an ethnic minority in Myanmar. About 1.1 million Rohingyas live predominantly in the western state of Rakhine. Why: Since 1982, Rohingya has been viewed as an illegitimate ethnicity with no path to full citizenship. For decades, they have been subjected to discrimination and violence by Myanmar's Buddhist majority. Thousands of Rohingyas have been escaping to Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. On August 25, violence broke down in Rakhine, 400 people were killed, and since then, 60,000 Rohingyas have escaped to Bangladish. Today, unfortunate Rohingyas are rejected by Bangladesh and sent back to Myanmar where troops await to behead, burn, murder, torture, rape. The UN has officially called the persecution of Rohingya Ethnic Cleansing but NOT much has been done to stop the genocide. Where: We will begin at ICC TEMPE and end on the lawn outside Old Main. ICC Youth Qiyam: Connecting with the Quran

Ramadan is often referred to as "the month of Quran," but sometimes some of us leave the month feeling like we didn't capitalize on our relationship with our Holy Book. Maybe we're not having a good understanding of what we're reading and listening to, or maybe we're having trouble finding the will to read at all. What better remedy than a night with a scholar in the house or God, learning about the book of God? ICC Tempe is very happy to host Shaykha Maryam Amir Ebrahimi for an all night Qiyam on "Connecting with the Quran." Insha'Allah this is a great way for us to learn about our beloved book in a way we didn't know before. Suhoor will be served insha'Allah. We hope to see everyone there!

ICC Youth Qiyam: The Value of Youth in the Muslim Community

Ramadan is a time where often many of our hidden stars in the community show us flashes of community leadership. Most of the time, those stars are youth. Our Masjid itself is strong in terms of youth population and involvement, but how do we capitalize on that demographic? What kind of importance must we place on the youth here, and how do we encourage them to take leadership roles for a Masjid that will be under their watch a few years from now? ICC Tempe would like to invite you to our first Youth Qiyam of Ramadan, led by Imam Azhar Subedar. We are very excited to host this all night program of prayer and knowledge, and of course, food! Please feel free to join us for a great event!

ICC Youth Halaqa - Preserving the Muslim Identity with Rawa Awad

Nowadays it's becoming incredibly hard to stick to Islam. The religion is constantly under attack. Others who don't attack expect us to abandon some tenants to become socially accepted. We're in a time where other groups who have ideals that go against our own want us to ally with them, but where do we draw the line? How do we maintain a strong relationship with these allies without compromising our Islamic values, or is it even possible? Join us on Wednesday for a great discussion led by sister Rawa Awad, on how we should tackle this prominent issue. Insha'Allah there will be refreshments. Please join us for Maghrib salah at 7:10 and we will begin the Halaqa right after insha'Allah

After the Wedding: The Keys for a Happy and Healthy Marriage

The hadīth of Umm Zar' has been a source of endless guidance and inspiration for people seeking marital bliss and harmony for over one thousand years. It captures a beautiful moment shared between Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his beloved wife, Lady A'ishah, in which she tells the tale of eleven women who make a vow to disclose their true feelings about their husbands, good or bad. What the women then reveal to each other has unveiled the essential characteristics that make or break marriages in every generation. #BlackLivesMatter Banner Ceremony

Our friends over at Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation have shown their support for racial justice in many ways, including hanging a banner reading “BlackLivesMatter.” Their banner unfortunately was vandalized twice, and then stolen. Unwavering in their support, they hung a new banner and it too was vandalized. Standing resolute for what they believe in, in support of the BlackLivesMatter movement, and in solidarity with our African American brothers and sisters, they intend to hang a new banner once more. They have invited community faith congregations around the valley to join in support of the cause by attending a brief ceremony planned to hang the new banner. The ceremony will be short and sweet with faith leaders offering brief remarks/prayers. **ICC and MAS Arizona are committed to community partnerships, and join together at every possible opportunity as we envision a more united, intentional community effort. If your organization would like to partner for this event or any other future events please do not hesitate to reach out. **

ICC Community Night:Mawlid of the Prophet

Friday, January 15th, after Isha Prayers (Isha Iqama will be 7:30 PM) Bring your family and friends and join us for a night of inspiring talks, hadith readings, and songs/nasheeds, as we celebrate the life of the Blessed Prophet (PBUH)! Featured Guest: Dr. Meraj Mohiuddin, author of "Revelation" "[This] is the first biography of the Prophet that I've read that brings it all together-there is something in it for everyone; as an instructor, I use it for teaching, and as a student, I use it for study. It is the most important work on the Prophet's life I've come across in the English language. I'm proud to announce that it is the official biography of the Prophet used by the Ella Collins Institute for training future faith providers in the USA." - Imam Suhaib Webb, Ella Collins Institute "Many biographies of the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) have appeared in recent years. None, however, display the scholarly depth, methodological precision and factual clarity of Meraj Mohiuddin's ["Revelation"]. Relying on ancient and modern sources, graphs, charts, marginal notes and a moving narration, Mohiuddin rigorously chronicles the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in a uniquely engaging and informative manner." - Imam Zaid Shakir, Zaytuna College Two attendees will be randomly selected to receive a free signed copy of the book "Revelation"!
