Visit a Mosque Day

The Atlanta Muslim Community has organized a citywide Visit A Mosque Day on Saturday, March 10th, where area Masajid aka Mosque will open their doors to the general public. Although most Masajids are always open to the public, this is an opportunity for individuals or groups to enjoin in a casual setting with Muslim in their neighborhood.

Healthy Minds for Healthy Lives

Not all pain is physical and Not all wounds are visible. Please join us on Friday March 2nd, 2018. This presentation will help us to understand this issue. Abuse isn’t always synonymous with alcoholism; In fact, alcohol is a factor in over a quarter of all suicides in the United States and more than a third of suicide victims used alcohol just prior to death. Coping with an alcohol abuse problem and the suicidal tendencies that sometimes accompany it is a slippery slope to say the least. This session will help to lead the way to cleaner, happier living by outlining the relationship between alcohol abuse and suicidal thoughts and how to overcome both. Keep in mind that while this session is not a substitute for professional help, it can certainly be a positive first step on your road to recovery. Hunger Walk/Run 5K 2018-Hamzah Science Academy

On Sunday, February 25, 2018, thousands of people will come together to raise awareness and funds to help fight hunger in our community. Hamzah Science Academy team as part of Islamic Speakers Bureau will be there too and we need your Support! Hunger Walk Run is one of the most important hunger relief efforts of the year. The money we raise will feed hope for the 1 in 6 people who face hunger in our community. Together, we can make sure that a child in our community doesn’t go to bed hungry tonight. We can offer a glimmer of hope to struggling parents desperately trying to make ends meet for their family. We can ensure another senior citizen isn’t forced to choose between paying for medicine or food. Youth Speakers Club - First session

Youth Speakers Club information and registration details: Hamzah Masjid in collaboration with Hamzah Science Academy is starting a new Speakers program for our youth. This program is for all middle and high school goers and for both girls and boys. Program Start Date: July 20th, 2017. Schedule: Members will meet weekly on every Thursday between 6:45 PM - 8:00 PM. Fee: $60 for six months + $20, one-time fee for two Toastmaster Manuals. For further details, you may contact me, Br Arif or Br Siraj. Those who don't know, Toastmaster is a renowned organization with millions of members worldwide. Organization's sole purpose is to help people in public speaking, better communication, and Leadership skills. Meraj Beg will be the instructor. Meraj has been a member of Toastmasters for 3+ years and currently, serving as a Vice President of Education in my club. Last December, he had an opportunity to compete in a humorous speech contest. Alhamdulillah, Meraj went on winning the contest all the way first on the club level then Area then Division and then the District. In the end, he finished in 3rd place, as the best speaker, at the GA state level. This journey taught me an experience, which was invaluable. The goal of this new program is to help our youth to become a confident communicator and a public speaker. Youth Club will provide them the platform, where they will learn how to write and package their speeches, use proper grammar, avoid Ahs, Umms, and many good things about public speaking and communication. Int'l Cricket Player Mohammad Yousuf is coming!

Assalamu Alaikkum, We're delighted to announce to the community that we've a unique lifetime opportunity to do various Activities (Chatting, Q&A, Auction, Photo & Video Sessions, Practice & Play) with Former Pakistan Cricket Team's captain Mohammad Yousuf for a day-long event (11am to 6pm EST) who has humbly accepted the idea, request and confirmed to come and see us all, Alhamdulillah. Get ready to BOWL HIM OUT & PLAY WITH THE INTERNATIONAL PLAYER!!! (under right circumstances). Due to a limited occupancy and tickets, currently the event has been limited only to the Brothers, their Friends and Families within Atlanta/Georgia and to the community members over here who'll follow the rules and directions of the event organizer, sponsors, and location. Masha Allah there is a stronger interest outside of the community as well. As a faith-based approach to investment management, investors often consider Halal investing to be a category of ethical or socially responsible investing. Islamic principles require that investors share in profit and loss, that they receive no interest (riba), and that they do not invest in a business that is prohibited by Islamic law, or sharia. Before investing in a company, it is necessary to evaluate its business activities and financial records to determine where its primary revenue comes from and how its income and expenditures are managed. A company that meets certain criteria would be Halal, or permissible. If it does not meet the criteria, it would be haram, or not permitted. Interpretation of Islamic law as applied to business activities is nuanced, and halal investment guidelines can vary. Therefore, Muslim investors often rely on guidance from Islamic scholars to help determine whether an investment is Halal. Investments that sharia scholars universally consider unacceptable are companies whose primary business activities violate the core tenets of Islam, including the manufacture or marketing of alcohol; gambling or gaming activities; conventional interest-based financial services; pork and pork products; and pornography. In addition, most sharia scholars advise against investing in tobacco companies. Islamic scholars have established financial guidelines to determine when a business activity is a core source of revenue and when it is not. For example, the five percent rule says that a core business activity is one that accounts for more than five percent of a company's revenue, or gross income. This reasoning applies to the Islamic prohibition on riba, or interest, as well. If a company's interest-based income or holdings exceed certain limits, then investing in the company is forbidden.

Adopt-A-Road Cleanup Day w/ Hamzah Youth

Hamzah Youth Community is hosting Adopt-A-Road (AAR) program to keep our neighborhood roads clean. As a community, we will be cleaning McFarland PKWY between Union Hill and HWY GA400. Forsyth county will be providing gloves, trash bags, and safety vests. No need to bring anything but yourself. For safety reasons request all volunteers to be a minimum age of 12. Hamzah Youth Committee will provide some refreshments.
