Weekend Workshop: Islamic Axioms, Tafsir, Sirah

Islamic Axioms: Fundamental Truths of the Faith, Dr. Tahir Wyatt Islam is often presented in a very dogmatic manner which can lead some to believe that the Shariah is arbitrary with no rhyme or reason. The objective of this course is to connect the various Islamic sciences and highlight the principles which bind them together. Participants will gain a better understanding of the foundations of their faith and the cohesive nature of its tradition. The information covered in this course is suitable for beginners and will serve as a great reminder for advanced students. Explanation of the Oft-Recited Chapters, Shaykh Rashid Ahmadi As an important part of prayer, understanding what is recited is a major contributing factor to a meaningful spiritual experience. The objective of this course is to expound upon the most frequently recited chapters of the Qur'an in a relevant and memorable manner. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the selected chapters and strengthen their relationship with Allah's book. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of revelation in our daily lives with discussions on topics such as doctrine, worship, and manners. Life Lessons from the Prophet's Biography, Imam John Starling The life of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is the most celebrated biographical account in the Muslim world. As a divinely-prescribed model for humanity, the Prophet's story should be understood as much more than a dramatic string of events. The objective of this course is to highlight some of the most potent yet practical life lessons he taught as his undying legacy. Participants will gain a better appreciation for the Prophet's life and mission and be better equipped to live a life according to his example. Information in this course will be both inspiring and informative. Duration: 12 sessions Time: 3rd Saturday of each month from 5-8:15 pm Certificates will be issued to students who attend regularly and pass several assessments.

GCLEA's 3rd Annual - Winter Coat Drive

Do you have a coat, gloves, scarves, that you don’t need anymore? Then donate them! Winter is almost here and there are people who could use a nice warm coat, hats, gloves and/or blankets. There will be a box at GCLEA for you to drop off your gently used coat/hat/scarps/gloves/blankets, from 11/01/15 to 11/30/15 Please donate clean, reusable OR new items only. Please do not use this as an opportunity to get of items you wouldn't even wear yourself. Your items will go to the homeless shelter in Camden and if we get an overwhelming response, we will also share in the donation bin for Narenj Tree (who ship items to Syria). For more information, please contact Shanaz Persaud at girlsyouthcommittee@gclea.org _______________ Hadith 37: Reward for Doing a Good Deed: On the authority of ibn Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with both of them): On the authority of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s blessing and peace be upon him) from among the sayings that he related from His Lord (glorified and exalted be He) is that He said, “Verily, Allah recorded the good deeds and the evil deeds. Then He clarified how [that recording should occur:] whoever decided to do a good deed but he did not do it, Allah records it with Him as a complete good deed. And if he decided to do it and actually did it, Allah records it with Him as ten good deeds up to seven hundred up to many times over. If he decided to do an evil deed but he did not do it, Allah records it with Him as one complete good deed. If he decided to do it and he actually did it, Allah records it as one evil deed.” (Recorded by al-Bukhari and Muslim) “And if he decided to do it and actually did it, Allah records it with Him as ten good deeds up to seven hundred up to many times over.” SubhanAllah, such is the mercy of Allah that when we actually do a good deed, He not only rewards us for that, but He increases our reward at least ten times! Allah tells us in the Qur’an: “Whoever brings a good deed shall have ten times the like thereof” (Surah al-Anaam:160)

Girls Development Seminar

Our girls... they grow up so fast... From birth to teenagers to young adults into adults.... you get the picture. :) Where does the time go, we ask ourselves. Meanwhile, we want to provide all the resources we can, to ensure they develop into wonderful young ladies, Insha'Allah. We are aware that this topic is addressed in school, but it's usually in a class with boys and girls (if you're going to public school). This will give the girls a chance to ask questions they would otherwise be shy to ask in school. So, please encourage them to ask questions. So with that in mind, GCLEA will be hosting Nurse Keisha Muhammad and she will be educating our girls on 'Girls' Development", followed by the Imam's wife, Evana Cooper-Starling, who will be closing it with the Islamic Perspective. This event is open to all girls from age 9 years and older. Please e-mail Shanaz Persaud at girlsyouthcommittee@gclea.org should you have any question(s). Thank you.
