This week we will be hosting Dr. Farha Abbasi from MSU, who will be here to help us deconstruct the stigma associated with mental illness. She'll focus on how we can build resiliency, identify stress, and she'll help us to understand trauma informed care.

Dr. Abbasi’s work as a psychiatrist focuses on publicly addressing the barriers that stigmatize and silence mental health issues within the Islamic community. She has established the Muslim Mental Health Conference and is the managing editor for Journal of Muslim Mental Health being hosted at Michigan State University.

Dr. Abbasi was awarded the American Psychiatric Association SAMSHA Minority Fellowship, which she used to create awareness about cultural competency and to redefine it as not just tolerance for others but rather acceptance. She has also recently received the Pioneer Award from the Michigan All Pakistan Physicians of North America. External Event Url
