The Islamophobia Teach-In Series was created by UNC MSA and UNC MONSOON as a way to heal and educate the UNC community after the events of February 10th. The series is focused on dismantling Islamophobia, from its financial roots and the commonly held prejudices perpetuated by the media and politics.

Please join AbdelRahman Murphy in discussing the misappropriation of the Islamic concept of jihad. Murphy will focus on how these misconceptions perpeturate Islamophobia and the criminalization of Muslim identities. Also, Murphy will detail how Muslims experience and understand the term jihad as a nuanced struggle in their faith in an introspective and extrospective manner.

This lecture is sponsored by UNC MSA, UNC MONSOON, Carolina Center for the Middle East and Muslim Civilization, and the Carolina Asia Center. External Event Url
