Openhearted Open House

Dear Friends and Neighbors, The Islamic Center of Bloomington (ICOB) and the Openhearted Campaign cordially invite you for a casual evening of dinner and sharing at our second annual Openhearted Open House. We look forward to getting to know you through our interactive presentations (Common Ground: Promoting Understanding between Faiths, Humans of Islam, and The Art of Qur'anic Recitation). Parking is available at the Center and in the surrounding neighborhoods. Dinner will be served in open buffet style all evening, and presentations will take place around 5:30 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:00 pm. You will also be invited to observe us praying the sunset prayer at 6:45 pm, learn more about how we are involved in the Bloomington community, and talk and share with your Muslim neighbors, iA! We can't wait to see you there! -#Openhearted FAQ: Will I be asked to remove my shoes? Yes. Everyone inside the mosque will need to remove their shoes. You can, of course, wear them outside on the grounds. What should I wear? Generally it is appropriate to dress fairly modestly in the mosque. Covering the legs, arms, and chest is considered a mark of respect for the mosque as a place of worship. Can I bring my food into the prayer hall? We ask that food be kept out of the prayer halls in order to maintain the cleanliness of the carpeting, etc. where we pray. Sisters, please join us to hear from various IU and City of Bloomington officials about the various resources they offer for women in Bloomington, and in particular, Muslim women. Outside of general information about the various departments represented and the services they offer, there will be a focus on how to stay safe as the member of a minority group here in town. Do you want to get to know your Muslim neighbors through shared experience? We invite you to fast during the day on June 30th! Then, join us to break the fast that evening at the Islamic Center of Bloomington with dinner and a short presentation on Ramadan. Muslims normally fast from before sunrise until sunset (4:49am – 9:16pm on June 30th), but of course we are used to fasting! If you feel you can only abstain from food (and want to drink water), or that you can only fast part of the day, or if you fall in a group that may be unable to fast (like those that are pregnant or ill), please join us anyway – we’d love to have you!
