Islam and the Stewardship of Reason

Today we face enormous threats from extremists within Islam and from outside it, as well as from an intellectual culture that often disdains religion. Centuries ago, Imam al-Ghazali realized that for Islam to withstand assaults, faith alone is not enough—reason is also needed to defend the religion. At Zaytuna College, we believe we have a collective responsibility to restore Imam al-Ghazali’s placement of reason at the center of the Islamic tradition—so we can confidently meet the challenges we face today.

Join Zaytuna for an inspirational evening with Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, the College's president, faculty and staff. You'll learn about the impact that Zaytuna scholars and students are making around the globe -- such as countering extremism within Islam, pushing back against Islamophobia, and leading civic engagement efforts.

We're also incredibly honored to announce that our special guest, Edward Ahmed Mitchell, the new executive director of CAIR-Georgia, will join us on stage.

Edward Ahmed Mitchell, the new executive director of CAIR-GA, is an attorney and former journalist based in Atlanta. Edward also serves as an editor of AtlantaMuslim.com, as an interfaith speaker for the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta, and as a member of the board of the Islamic Community Center of Atlanta. Edward graduated from Morehouse College and Georgetown University, where he served as president of the law school's Muslim Law Students Association.

Come celebrate what you've built and continue to help Zaytuna maximize its public impact.
