Commencement speaker bio: Mansa Bilal Mark King has a Ph.D. and M.A. in sociology from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in psychology from Howard University. He is an associate professor of sociology at Morehouse College. It is the nation’s only Historically Black Liberal Arts College for men, counts Martin Luther King, Jr. (no relation) among its renowned alumni, and boasts a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. In 2012, Bilal began collaborating on the After Malcolm Digital Collective with Abbas Barzegar and Zaynab Mansour Ansari, while his traditionally published research has focused on family structure and child well-being; racial and ethnic inequality, interfaith families in Ghana, and the racial reconciliation of blacks and whites in the U.S.. His next project will focus on the role of spiritual communities like the Muridiyya, Tijaniyya, African Hebrew Israelites, and Orisha/Ifa in Blackamerican transnationalism. Bilal is a certified speaker for the Islamic and Interfaith Speakers Bureaus of Atlanta, and was a content manager for the Islamic Networks Group. He has also worked as a community organizer, an education research interviewer, a violence-prevention best-practices analyst, and an evaluation consultant. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Fikira, and daughters, Sabila and Hafsatu. External Event Url
