Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have been forced to flee from their homes in Myanmar. The government of Myanmar claims the Rohingya people are illegal immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh and has denied them citizenship, leaving them stateless. Religious clashes in Myanmar, a Buddhist-majority country, have driven more than 400,000 Rohingya Muslims out of the country, provoking the UN and their top human rights officials to call the campaign against "ethnic cleansing."

On Saturday, March 17th at 7 PM in Ern Commons, the Muslim Students Association at UVA will be holding a fundraiser banquet with Islamic Relief USA for Rohingya refugees, featuring guest speaker Saad Tasleem. General admission tickets are $20 and UVA student tickets are $15 with the discount code "UVAfamily." 100% of the ticket proceeds will go towards helping Rohingya refugees. Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hand-in-hand-for-refugees-tickets-43616148073.

PLEASE come, bring all your friends, and spread the word about this event—we need all the help we can get in order to raise as many donations as we can for the Rohingya Muslims! If you would like to donate directly to the cause, please do so here: irusa.org/myanmar. External Event Url
