See you there, insha'Allah :)

A few people have asked us: "What is Scars and Smiles and why should I attend? What is so different about it?"
Scars and Smiles was originally a vision of Ridwan Adhami who has made a name for himself in photography and video work. He has produced video projects for some of the worlds biggest talents and he also is photography star especially with the upcoming release of his new book called "366- A Photo a Day 2012".
A picture is worth 1000 words and with Ridwan's photos... they usually are worth a lot more. We often see faces of people in various places on the news, in magazines, and on social media but we rarely get to hear the story behind these faces.
Scars and Smiles is your chance to get to hear the stories behind the faces in some of the most war torn and chaotic areas in the world such as Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Somalia, and beyond.

You could easily google those countries and see images and read captions but do you ever get a chance to hear the stories behind these refugees? Do you ever get to hear about the heartache in our homelands while looking into the persons eyes in an IMAX theater as if they are right there with you?

No.

Scars and Smiles will take you on that ride and along the ride you will get to experience entertainment as your interludes. Not only will you get to feel the stories but you will get to hear from several voices who have devoted much of their lives to their respective arts.

The Narcicyst is one of the most popular hip hop entertainers in the world. Luckily, he is of Iraqi descent and has worked tirelessly as a voice of activism for many years.

Leftist is a universal hip hop band that can be described as a mix of 1 part "Red Hot Chili Peppers" and 1 part "The Roots".

Ala M. Yaktieen is a self taught Oud playing talent that can take you back to the classic sounds of the middle east in just a few notes.

Ghuydar Beshmaf is a Syrian American Nasheed artist who has been collecting fan after fan with the amazing sound of his voice.

Said Durrah is a Palestinian Jordanian Comedian who has traveled all over the world giving audiences something to laugh about while staying true to his Arab Roots.

So why should you go? Are you human? Are you concerned about the people in need in Syria or Palestine or beyond? Are you tired of reading statistics over and over and feel like you are losing touch with the individuals?

Then you need to attend. You will have a good time. You will become inspired.

On top of that you will feel you did some good simply by attending.
